Socrates Café Rockville Meetup

At the beginning of each meeting, the attendees suggest topics. Then we vote and break into smaller groups of six to eight to discuss the top vote-getters. After 45-50 minutes, we take a break for refeshments. Then we form new groups to discuss the next topics. This is a long-standing discussion group that joined Meet-up.com within the last year. - Ken

is current affairs, worls or local politics taboo?

Many of the suggested questions are about or related to current events and politics, and sometimes those who raise them do so because of strongly-held positions. We don't wish to argue political positions, but Socratic dialogue tries to examine the assumptions and logic behind the positions. It's not about winning, but about understanding each other's thinking. Twice in recent years, we have taken on the Socratic dialogue as a topic for discussion: what is it, and how are we doing with it?
