There aren't any open polls.
Do you hunger for a deeper understanding of yourself and the world?
Do you value thoughtful, honest, and respectful dialogue?
Conceptual Café is a place where people from different backgrounds can get together and exchange our thoughts while embracing the central idea that we learn more when we question, especially when we question with others.
At Conceptual Café, we get together for a monthly discussion of a question that interests or challenges us. We arrive on the night, pick a question we would like to explore and then launch into 90 minutes of facilitated dialogue.
To give you a flavor for the types of questions that we explore, here are some examples: - "Is conflict inherent to human nature?" "Does the self come from an essential source, or is it something we construct?" "If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, is it really a duck?"
No philosophical background needed. This is about our own ideas and philosophies and not necessarily about what the great philosophers and academics have said or written. It is not a debate club or a platform for proselytizing. Instead, we place the emphasis on questioning, open-mindedness, and challenging our own assumptions while listening to and respecting the views shared by others.
We meet on the first Thursday of each month in the meeting room of the Northfield Library at 350 Happ Road. We start promptly at 7:00 pm and wrap up about 8:30 p.m.
If you think this might be for you, or even if you are not quite sure yet, why not come along and give it a try? It would be great to see you.
