We are the oldest, continuously gathering Socrates Café in the World. Please add your voice to the discussion.

Socrates thought that understanding the perspectives of others made him a more excellent human being. In this spirit, the purpose of the Socrates Café is not to persuade others to our point of view, but to deepen our understanding of the views of everyone who participates.

Please join us this month for the next Socrates Café and another ninety minutes of philosophical exploration.

This is an interesting question, and has many facets, not only to the problem, but to potential answers/solutions. IMHO, there is no single solution, but a coordinated "attack, " utilizing a variety of resources and integrated plans could seriously impact the problem.

This is a vexing question for most people and people are wont to express their non - difinitive opionions about it with belieing fervor.

The question was about the legalization / decriminalization of drugs. I was surprised by how strong people's opinions were on this.

This sounds interesting, but as I haven't attended one of your meetups yet, can anyone give me an idea of what the topics are either going to be or have been in the past?

Amelia, The topics are questions on slips of paper pulled from a jar. Two questions are pulled, and one of the two is chosen by consensus. We then proceed to pass the slip around the group, with each one giving his/her thoughts on the subject. Then we have a general discussion of the topic. Finally, we end with each person giving their final thoughts on the question. I am a relative "newbie" to the group, but I can state it is interesting. Why don't you come to the next session to at least try it on for size? As Montaigne said, "It is good to rub and polish our brain against that of others."

Hi everyone. This will be my first meeting. I recently graduated from UA with a degree in psychology and philosophy so I should be able to add to the discussion. Two other philosophy student friends of mine will be tagging along.

Several people in this group feel that because we meet infrequently, we really don't get to know each other and in the discussions we can't know each other;s sensitivities. Therefore people have suggested that this group form a sub-group to meet the fourth Tuesday of each month to engage in personal conversations which will give us a chance to get to know each other better and form friendships.
We don't belive that there will be more than a small cadre of members interested.
Anyone interested, please email me with your cell number and email address so we casn get started.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
