Agile as a set of principles to deliver software has proven itself as more than a passing fad. Various frameworks have emerged to implement Agile principles (Scrum, XP, Kanban), each with its set of adherents. In fact, the Agile devotion among some enthusiasts borders on almost a religious fervor. Statements such as, "There are no problems with Scrum. The problems actually are with the people that implement it" are not uncommon.
Although Agile has met with a lot of success (as evidenced by its adoption) it is not a silver bullet. Organizations that take it as such are usually in for disappointment as there are pitfalls on the road to adopting Agile and reaping its benefits. Some of those can be systemic to the organization (there's a reason why smaller organizations tend to be better at Agile), but many are rooted in a failure to embrace the new paradigm.
This month Jim Tomney will lead a round table discussion of some of the issues that can arise when switching from Waterfall to Scrum (the most popular framework for implementing Agile). If you are already doing Agile, come share your successes and concerns; if you aren't doing Agile but are curious about it, then this is a meeting you won't want to miss.
We will meet at TEKsystems in Linthicum. There is plenty of free parking in front of the building. The meeting will start at 7:00 PM. If you get there after 7:00 and find yourself locked out, you will find our phone number posted on the front door. Call the number and someone will come to let you in. Don't be embarrassed - happens all the time.
We will provide a little time for networking before the meeting, so you are welcome to arrive a few minutes early for pizza and conversation.
Many thanks to TEKsystems for hosting this meeting and providing pizza and soft drinks.
