RE: [alternativeenergy-224] Email

Hi Susan, I have been experimenting with solar for awhile now and am fairly knowledgeable with the subject but I can't say that I know everything. I'm sure a few solar society members has had solar installed on there home, one being Mitchell, whether it's solar heating or photovoltaic for electricity production. This is a picture of my solar install on my travel trailer which I use to experiment with here in Tucson. My plan is also building a self sustaining system fit for the particular environment.

Hi Roy. I think first we should begin with emails and open up lines of communication between you and our community coordinator, Rick Hannah. He is interested, but believes in starting self- sustaining programs that will continue after a teacher initiates one. I think that since we have a new science and technology building, the school will be very open to exploring solar. I do not believe anyone here has begun solar power for electricity, or for cooking. I will forward this to Rick and see what he says.

Hi Susan,

I'm wondering if you can update the group with your progress over there?, it sounds interesting to me being somewhere and basically starting from scratch and building a sustainable environment using alternative environment. Some people in the group may even be able help also.

Roy

Hi Bruce,
I am trying to connect with the Solar Society to make a connection between your organization and my school - Sinarmas World Academy - in Jakarta or actually BSD city near Jakarta, Indonesia. I am working with several teachers who are community oriented, and lead workshops with students at the middle and high school levels to solve problems in their surrounding areas. Our school is starting a community garden for fundraising and to provide more food for the neighborhoods. I was told that there are no solar cookers, no solar hot water, no solar powered generators - yet the sun shines here most of the time. I am interested in learning how to better insulate our homes, to supply alternative energy to augment electrical energy, and increase our hot water supply, etc. The infrastructure is still rather new, and I believe the powers that be would be open to suggestions, especially at a progressive and innovative school such as SWA - which prepares students to become world leaders. I would very much like to look into solving problems in the areas of watershed management, since there are flooding problems here during the rainy season, and find a way to create generators by burning trash like they do in companies such as Covanta in Connecticutt. Green living is what I am interested in and want to know more about it myself so I can share that knowledge with others. Is it possible to begin a dialog between us about this wide open and broad topic?
I did try to contact Robert Bulechek about this, and I hope I did not step out of turn or offend anyone. I met you a few times at different homes and at solar meetup gatherings at restaurants. I'm not sure if you remember me. I believe you demonstrated a solar oven and brought over a chicken you had cooked. I do not have one here, but would like one. The trouble is items don't always make it through customs. Sometimes they 'disappear'. I would love to know if you would consider coming here to give presentations and even teach the students and teachers after school how to use solar energy here. I could provide you a place to stay as I have three bedrooms and would have two to offer you for your stay here. I would have to ask the school if they have funds to pay you for lectures, mini-lessons for staff and students, and for airfare, room and board. I would have to find out, but only if you were interested, able and willing to do so. Then I would have to find out what your fees would be before I ask the CEO and my principal. They are opening up a new science and tech building called the Da Vinci, so I believe they would probably be thrilled to have you as a guest speaker.
     Please let me know.
I miss my friends and family in Tucson, but I'm making new friends and learning many new things here as well.
Susan Campbell

Hi,

Solar Society members can again send email without Organizer approval.  Please stay on topic (solar, alternative energy, green living) and leave politics, religion and economics out of all email unless they are directly related to solar, alternative energy, and/or green living.

Thank you,
Bruce
