The Solar Industry Shakeout? Business Perspectives & Strategies

The San Francisco Center for Economic Development together with DECA Connect has organized: "The Solar Industry Shakeout? Business Perspectives & Strategies" to discuss the development of the solar industry in the coming years. The SFCED aims to assist cleantech business development (retention, expansion/recruitment) in San Francisco by advancing communication and collaboration between cleantech businesses. This event will feature presenters from the private and public sector to discuss the Solar Industry in San Francisco.


From across the private and public sector, the event will feature:

Melanie Nutter, Director, SF Department of Environment

In July 2010, Mayor Gavin Newsom appointed Melanie Nutter and has since been leading the Department of Environment, which helps all San Francisco residents and businesses take an active role in protecting and enhancing the urban environment, produces and publicizes information on sustainable practices, and develops innovative and practical environment programs for all residents. Prior to her role as Director at SF Department of Environment Melanie served as Deputy District Director for the U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi. In addition, Melanie has over 18 years of experience in fundraising, events management, grassroots organizing and media relations. Nutter has also founded and chairs the Energy and Environment Circle for the Full Circle Fund with help of Vice President Al Gore and green jobs advocate Van Jones. Nutter holds a Bachelor's of Science degree from Northwestern University in Communications and Environmental Studies.

Sheldon Kimber, SVP, Development, Recurrent Energy

Sheldon brings over a decade of experience in the energy finance and development to Recurrent Energy. He leads all North America project development, expansion, and orgination activities. Formerly the VP of finance at Recurrent Energy, Sheldon was instrumental in developing and negotiating the company's existing projects, fund raising efforts, and joint venture agreements. Previously, he spent five years at Calpine, working on gas-fired power projects and power purchase agreements with large energy customers. He also worked as an investment banker for industrial natural resource companies at Goldman Sachs, and in Accenture's strategy consulting practice, specializing in power price forecasting and asset valuation projects for utility clients. Sheldon holds an MBA from UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business and a BA in Economics from Kenyon College.

Tony Seba, Lecturer, Stanford University

Lecturer in Entrepreneurship and Clean Energy. Tony holds an M.B.A. from Stanford University Graduate School of Business and a B.S. in Computer Science and Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Seba speaks frequently at clean energy, clean tech, entrepreneurship and high tech conferences and company events. He has been featured in ComputerWorld, Business Week, Investors Business Daily, Forbes, Fast Company, Success and other media and holds entrepreneurship awards such as BridgeGate’s Top 20 Difference-makers. Author of Solar Trillions - 7 market and investment opportunities in the emerging clean-energy economy.

Boris Shubert, CEO, Q.CELLS North Americas

Boris Schubert brings more than 10 years of experience in the utilities and electricity generation fields to Q.CELLS North America. In 2008, Boris founded the North America branch of Q.CELLS' power plant business and served as president and COO until taking over as CEO in November 2011. For the past five years, Boris has led Q.CELLS North America to sell and deliver 100+MWp PV power plants in the U.S. and Canada. He is driven to shape the electricity generation and distribution architecture of the 21st century. Prior to joining Q.CELLS, he worked as a management consultant for Accenture.
