Soldering Electroluminescent (EL) wire poses a few extra challenges over soldering PCBs or simple wires, in this workshop I'll cover those as well as some basics if you are new to soldering in general. I will also discuss options for powering and controlling EL wire and will have some components and projects on hand for show and tell.
Workshop cost: FREE for members*, $10 for non-members. Please RSVP; class limit 15.
Bring: At a minimum just bring yourself, and no preexisting skills necessary - SSD and I will provide equipment and materials to practice EL wire soldering. If you have a project to work on, feel free to bring your own wire and components. If you want to purchase EL wire and components ahead of time to bring to the workshop, https://www.sparkfun.com/ has a good selection of EL wire colors, and for components to power them you will need an inverter and battery - I usually use either an all-in-one combo pack (item COM-11222) or get separate components so I can use a flat rechargeable battery (COM-10201 for 3v inverter, and LiPo batteries with usb connector). Sparkfun is in Boulder, you will generally need to order by Thursday to pick up on Friday, please consult their site for details.
