Join us for a songwriters' roundtable in which members will critique and provide feedback on each other's songs.
The roundtable will be hosted by musician-songwriter-producer Neel Modi at The Central, a Toronto hot spot for musicians, artists and poets in the Bloor / Bathurst area of downtown Toronto, right next to Honest Ed's in the heart of Mirvish Village.
The Central is giving our group a private room upstairs to hold our roundtable.
THE ROUNDTABLE
Members will each bring one song they are working on to the roundtable event. All music genres will be welcome, including pop, rock, hip hop, country, folk, instrumental, ethnic, experimental jazz, blues, funk, R&B, spoken word, etc.
The group will listen to each song, one at a time, and members will provide respectful, effective feedback after each song. Members who don't have a song for group critique are still encouraged to attend. The more feedback, the better! This will also be a great opportunity for members to get to know each other.
HOW IT WORKS
The names of members with songs will be placed in a bag and a name will be drawn. The drawn member's song will be played to the group. Members will then discuss the song and provide constructive feedback.
This process will be repeated to enable as many songs as possible to be heard and critiqued during the roundtable. On average, about 15 minutes will be allotted for each member's song. If any members' songs do not get heard, they will be given priority during the group's next roundtable event.
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO: Bring one song. We will provide speakers for you to plug an MP3 player directly into or a lap top will be provided for those who have a CD or need to access their song via internet. If your song is not recorded, bring an acoustic guitar to present your song live.
A LITTLE MORE TECHNICAL INFO: Lucan, owner of The Central, says: "You can bring in any standard consumer music player (laptop, mp3 player, ipod, iphone, etc) as long as it has standard headphone jacks. For those who are tech savvy this is called '1/8 inch'." If you have any questions, please contact the host.
SONG PROTECTION: To protect your song, it's recommended you record and copyright it before the session. You can easily do this by sending the song in an envelope to yourself via registered mail. When you receive the envelope, don't open it or the proof of copyright will be negated!

A note for members who are producing their own recordings for this meetup: it is strongly recommended that you bring a MONO mix of your recording, as the room may only have one speaker / channel to present. Please post below if you have any questions about this.
