Time already for another Seattle-Ravenna In-Depth Critique Workshop to be held, as usual, at my home. I invite all of you serious or semi-serious songwriters to share one of your songs for critique and comments. Past events have been fun and successful, and I’ve learned much from every one of these sessions that I have attended or hosted. The group is always friendly, and you are sure to get some unique points of view on your song, and perhaps some ways to bring it to where you want it to be.
Your song does not have to be finished to participate, but it should be well along, with some developed ideas, music, and lyrics. Songs in progress are welcome, and for me, they are more interesting to critique – I have found that those presenting “finished” songs don’t get the full benefit of the critique unless they are looking to make it better. This group is for learning and sharing the wisdom of the many fine songwriters we have in SiS.
About a week prior to the critique, you are asked to provide (online) both a recording of the song, and a copy of your lyrics. I recommend SoundCloud for this, as it has worked very well in the past. If you don’t have an account there yet, it is easy and free. I’ll send a notice or two to remind you when you should post.
A few reminders:
This is a closed event, limited to five participants. This number seems to work best, and everyone seems to get enough “face time” to benefit from the critique. If the event is full, there is a waiting list. Don’t come to observe or show up if you do not have a spot reserved. Contact me (John Apolis) directly if you have any questions.
If you provide me with your email address (mine is [masked]) I will send you some guidelines for critiquing.
Thank you, and I look forward to seeing you there.
