Seattle/Ravenna In-Depth Song Critique Workshop

**Please read the entire description before signing up to participate!**

Time already for another Seattle-Ravenna In-Depth Critique Workshop to be held, as usual, at my home. I invite all of you serious or semi-serious songwriters to share one of your songs for critique and comments. Past events have been fun and successful, and I’ve learned much from every one of these sessions that I have attended or hosted. The group is always friendly, and you are sure to get some unique points of view on your song, and perhaps some ways to bring it to where you want it to be.

Your song does not have to be finished to participate, but it should be well along, with some developed ideas, music, and lyrics. Songs in progress are welcome, and for me, they are more interesting to critique – I have found that those presenting “finished” songs don’t get the full benefit of the critique unless they are looking to make it better. This group is for learning and sharing the wisdom of the many fine songwriters we have in SiS.

About a week prior to the critique, you are asked to provide (online) both a recording of the song, and a copy of your lyrics. I recommend SoundCloud for this, as it has worked very well in the past. If you don’t have an account there yet, it is easy and free. I’ll send a notice or two to remind you when you should post.

A few reminders:
This is a closed event, limited to five participants. This number seems to work best, and everyone seems to get enough “face time” to benefit from the critique. If the event is full, there is a waiting list. Don’t come to observe or show up if you do not have a spot reserved. Contact me (John Apolis) directly if you have any questions.

If you provide me with your email address (mine is [masked]) I will send you some guidelines for critiquing.

Thank you, and I look forward to seeing you there.
John Apolis

For some stupid reason I'm currently investigating, SoundCloud won't let me use my chosen name but rather a string of random numbers. (I probably set up an account long ago and must have forgotten about it.) So please use this link once and forget it:

    for my song submission.

    See you tonight,

    - Stan

Hi John and company, I don't have a recording to share. I will have to cancel for this time and figure out how to make a recording and try to make another one of the Ravenna group critiques. Thanks from katy

Katy, don't get frustrated! Soundcloud is only one option, of course. However, you can record directly onto that site if you have a mic hooked to your computer. Give me a call if I can help. -John[masked]

My song can be listened to at
Click on the song Infinite Horizons.
    Hear is the lyrics.

    Infinite Horizons

I stand upon the summit of my life
    A journey of many years.
When I look in every direction
I'm free of all my fears.

    Infinite Horizons
    Dreams do come true.
    Infinite Horizons
    Someday you'll see them too.

Many times I have nearly fallen
    So hard to go on.
After resting I kept on climbing
    Now I'm feeling strong.

    Infinite Horizons
    Far above the clouds.
    Infinite Horizons
    The sun is shining down.

Like a bird my thoughts take flight
    Soaring high above.
Nothing left to hold me back
    From doing what I love

    Infinite Horizons
As far as I can see.
    Infinite Horizons
    Reaching out to me.

    Infinite Horizons
    Dreams do come true.
    Infinite Horizons
    Someday you'll see them too.
