I'm excited for our first House Concert! Our first House Concert Meetup is going to be in a wonderful, warm, intimate acoustic hall, for two reasons:
1) To accomodate all of you guys and your friends. I never expected 60+ people to join the Meetup group in such a short time...how exciting! This is just to have a big get-together kick-off and celebration of our House Concert group. And it's in a wooden, beautiful performance hall of an Anglican church...you can't get more intimate than that.
2) Several of you have mentioned that you have houses and would love to host house concerts. This is a way to get all of the information for your 'venue' -what city you live in, how many people can squeeze into your living room, how many times you'd like to host a house concert, etcetera- in one place.
We were well due for a meetup, and had been waiting a while for one. Here it is! Please RSVP, invite a few friends out, and come out for some lovely, award-winning acoustic music.
Bobby Jo Valentine - Fitting for February, our headliner is Bobby Jo Valentine. A homegrown talent (from Petaluma), Valentine has recently released his first CD, A Place to Belong, and has since been touring and winning several awards for his honest lyrics and uplifting melodies. Warm and inviting, filled with depth and hope, Bobby's songs display both innocence and maturity which captivates audiences young and old alike. He has appeared on several radio and TV shows including live performances at ABC and NBC morning shows, and has shared stages with some of the best songwriters today. He is the winner of several awards, most recently WCS Songwriter of the Year at for his song "Fly.” Armed with just a ukulele and a guitar, with melodies reminiscent of a young Paul Simon, Bobby Jo Valentine shoots straight to the heart.
Andy Kong - A young, talented singer/songwriter from Berkeley, CA, Andy produced his own first album, and has shared stages with artists such as Ernie Halter and Karmina. His songs have a John Mayer style to them, accessible and warm.
Kress Cole - In 2011, Kress Cole entered 12 West Coast Songwriter's Association competitions in local chapters around the area. She won 8 of the 12 'Best Song' awards. Touching and clever, her lyrics and Ani Defranco-styled delivery will have you laughing out loud one minute and profoundly moved the next. Don't miss this girl!
