Ok, photogs...We did such a kick butt job last year we have been asked to photograph the event again this year! Go SoCOPhoGro!

In keeping with charter of giving back to the community - we've found that this event is one of the best around. This event is a great chance to practice our photography, be a part of a one of a kind event, and give our talent and support to others.

On September 8th we will be participating as volunteer photographers for the Tour De Fuzz, a bike ride to benefit their Chaplaincy program.

From their website:

This is the Chaplaincy’s main annual fundraiser. The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office, the Santa Rosa Police Department, and both of their bike clubs (Sonoma County Road Dogs and BlueLine Cycling) partner with our chaplains to put on this outstanding ride that is open to all Bay Area (and beyond) bike enthusiasts and law enforcement officers throughout the nation.

They are planning for up to 300 riders on 3 different courses: a 100 mile, a 100k and a 50k loop. We have maps of the courses, which start and end at Ursuline high school, travel on westside road through the wine country, up to the geysers and by lake sonoma.

We need photographers strategically placed on all of the routes to capture action shots of the riders and then afterwards (if you want) the activities and demonstrations taking place at the finish line.

  • You will get a "tour de fuzz" official event photographer t-shirt
  • Burritos and drinks at the end of the race
  • A website to upload to, so that riders and their families can purchase images
  • A chance to meet some amazing people doing great things for Sonoma County
  • A discount on entry fees for any family member who wants to ride

We know this wont appeal to everyone, and that is ok - we understand. But if you want to participate here is what we need:

  • Your commitment that you will show up on the day
  • Come to a 'planning meeting' - we can be flexible but we really want your input and suggestions on this
  • Agree to donate your best images to the County with no watermarks
  • Up to a $10 dollar 'donation' to cover the cost of your shirt (we are currently asking a few local businesses to underwrite this, your cost may be $0, but no more than $10)

We need between 38-50 people who want to do this! So there will be a waiting list created if needed.

Email us with any questions you have. And if you RSVP yes, answer the shirt size question so we can order your shirt.

Thanks Guys! Let's have fun!

Remy and Ray

Hi! I didn't RSVP to the meetup, but showed up and took photos at Wohler Bridge with Carla Wilkinson. If there's an eMail going around about where to download them, I may not be on the list since I didn't RSVP! Could you add me Remy, please? :) (Oh and thanks for the t-shirt! They're really nice this year!)

I added you to the attendance list. Can you send me a list of the location that you shot from so I can create the galleries on the Le Tour De Fuzz site?

  • John C.

As a rider, this was one of Sonoma County's truly great rides. Great rider support, food and community, all for a worthy cause. And as a photographer, it looked like you guys and gals were everywhere, and having way too much fun. Thanks for the great support.

Im pared down to about 500 really good images. Geo-tagged and ready to get sized down and jpeged and uploaded.... to ?

  • Bob C.

I notice I am not on the list of attendees in the right column. I suspect I am not the only attending photographer in that count. There were probably more than 25 of us. Anyway it was a terrific day. If an email has gone out about where to upload, please copy me with it. Those guidelines would help a lot.

    • Bob C.

Thanks Remy. I didn't get that email so, could you put me on the list for future mailings?

      September 9, 2012

    • Bob C.

Remy, did the email go out yesterday with upload instructions? If so, didn't get it. Please send to me.

This is such a great event, and for such a good cause. I had the best time, ever. I came home exhausted, but on a personal high from so many good experiences from the day.

  • Miranda S.

Wow - what a great time for a first-timer! Thank you so much for the encouragement to join in on this one, Remy! I'm still on a high from the day (and working through some sore leg muscles). Great meeting all of you!

oh..and hopefully someone got a good shot of me on the bike. I would love to see that. :)

      September 9, 2012

  • Carla W.

I too would like to know where to upload the Tour de Fuzz shots, and would also like to know what an appropriate # of shots to contribute is. I have reduced my good shots of the various riders to about 50 or so. Is that too many?

    September 9, 2012

    • Paul F.

730 shots here. So no. Ray/Remy will let us know where to upload our pics soon. So stay tuned.

      September 9, 2012

    • Remy G.

Email went out saying we'll know more on Monday. Hang tight! Thanks paul

I enjoyed photographing this event. The cause was great, & the riders were friendly. My husband also rode in this ride, so it was doubly fun for us. I would do it again.

    September 4, 2012

    • Remy G.

Sure Bob. We had to close RSVPs for shirts, so I may not be able to get you your desired size but I'll do my best. Glad to have you aboard!

    September 2, 2012

need two shirts... caitlyn xl and me xxl

    September 1, 2012

  • Shelli B.

I'll be at Ursuline at 7am on the 8th.
    * Will I need a flash? Should I bring a tripod?
    * Will I be assigned a location or should I find one on my own? (I can travel by car, motorcycle or bicycle, just let me know how to show up)
    * Shirt size Medium.
Really looking forward to this! It'll be my first time meeting this great group, and my first time photographing a cycling event.

    1 · August 26, 2012

    • Paul F.

Shelli, A tripod/monipod would be useful, but not a flash. Blinding approaching cyclists is a no no.

      1 · August 26, 2012

    • Shelli B.

ow! my eye! Ok, I'll behave and leave the flash at home.

      August 27, 2012

  • Mark H.

Two wheel racing action is right up my alley.

    August 27, 2012

  • Roger B.

My Shirt size: XXXL if you can get it....XXL if you can't.

  • Miranda S.

Hi Remy and Ray, are we still having a meeting before Sept. 8th? If not, where will we meet up on the 8th?

    thanks!

    1 · August 21, 2012

  • Miranda S.

I have a question about the size of lens. If I'm on the back of a motorcycle, what zoom range do you recommend? Thanks!

    August 10, 2012

    • Ray M.

Miranda, last year I used my[masked] lens and it worked perfectly. Also a 24-70 or a[masked] would also make for a great lend for this type of job.

      August 13, 2012

    • Miranda S.

Thanks, Ray! I got nervous seeing a picture of you with such a big lens, but it looks like my[masked] will work fine. Canon lenses can be deceiving sometimes as to the range. :) If you have any other tips for managing on the motorcycle without throwing off the balance would be much appreciated! Thank you :)

      August 13, 2012

  • Mark B.

    Hi Remy and Ray,
Will a cut sheet be available with suggested sizes and resolutions for uploading? Also a suggestion or two on equipment based on last year's experiences?

It could be paperless by starting a thread here. It would make the planning meeting easier for all.

    August 11, 2012

  • John H.

are we going to have a pre-race meeting to go over where we will be on the course on race day.

    August 11, 2012

  • Stan C.

700 members and we can't get 50 to commit....?????

    August 6, 2012

    • Remy G.

Hi Stan! Yea, we know this event isnt for everyone, and its back to school time. on Ride Day, I know we'll make it work!
