Hello SoCoPhoGro Members.
Uh, it's June. How did half of 2013 already pass? Welcome to our newest members, and thank you for everyone who has been to at least ONE meetup in the past 4 years...it is because of you this group is what it is...amazing.
A few announcements to start: We have put a real focus the past few months on getting people 'seen' - and we have a few members with shows coming up that we want to highlight and a few opportunities to talk about.
- At the Welcome center in Railroad Square, we are currently showcasing the work of Cathleen, Debra Lee, Cecilia, and John C. On June 22nd, the next four members - Grant, Paula, Aames and Kenneth B, will hang their work. If you havent visited the visitors Center, take 5 minutes and check it out. Some amazing work being showcased for sure. (We will be selecting the next two show's participants in the next few days, for July and August's shows. Dont forget to RSVP to that "meet up" if you want your name in the hat.)
- At City Hall in the Council Chambers, SoCoPhoGro photographer Ira Meinhofer is currently showcasing 16 pieces of "Pinhole Photography" - all of the images he's showing were taken with photo paper and empty paint cans. Some were digitized, and enhanced with colors too. His show runs from today thru July 10th. There is an artist reception at the council chambers Friday night (tomorrow) from 5-7pm. We'll be there, cold water in hand to greet you! :) 100 Santa Rosa Avenue, right at the corner of Sonoma Ave. Some free parking available too.
- Have you entered anything in the Sonoma County Fair? Electronic Applications for entries is at the end of June, so think about entering this year! It's a great opportunity to showcase your work in your community - Looking at the categories, there are MANY to choose from, so check it out, and submit something - you know you want to.
- And, coming up in JANUARY The SoCoPhoGro will again be the artist in residence at the Steele Lane community center. This past January we showcased 39 artists from our group. We plan to at least DOUBLE that by hanging not only in the front lobby but in the hallways near staff and conference rooms too. That way, we can have more memebers showcased, and work will be seen by employees and community residents who use those rooms as well. It's very exciting and it takes a lot of work, so we'll definitely accept volunteers who want to help organize that show. More to come on that!
The theme for June's Photo Challenge is "Change." Interpret it anyway you like. This is a 'challenge', so grab your camera and go shoot. The only "rule" is that your image should be taken in June. Of 2013. :)
Ray and I are working on the calendar for the last half of 2013, securing a date for the holiday party (if you can believe that) and setting up dates for Angel Island, HDR at Mare Island, our day/night shoot at the Sonoma County Fair, some local night shoots, and a few other surprises too.
Its going to be a great summer.
Camera in hand, keep shooting!
Remy and Ray
