West Sonoma County Road Biking - 20 miles, easy/moderate.

This is a shorter version of our other West county bike loop. It's about 20 miles of flat riding along paved bike paths and a couple of back roads that take us from Santa Rosa out to Sebastopol, then through parts of the beautiful Laguna De Santa Rosa, and finally back following alongside the Santa Rosa Creek. There will be very few cars to contend with, and our pace throughout will be relaxed.

Our ride will take about 2.5 - 3.5 hours. We will re-group often and take one snack break. There are public bathrooms at our meetup spot but none along the way.

To get to the starting place: from 101 take Hwy 12 exit and head west toward Sebastopol. Take the Stonypoint Rd exit off hwy 12. Turn RIGHT at the light and onto Stonypoint Rd. Turn LEFT at the next light onto West 3rd. A little shopping center will be on your left. Pull into the shopping center and park. We will meet in front of the CVS.

Bike essentials
-Make sure your bike is in good working order and fits you comfortably.
-Make sure you know how to change gears!

-A bike helmet
-sunscreen, water, snacks
-appropriate shoes for biking (no sandals, open toe shoes, etc)

I've had a different experience with wait lists. . . it seems to automatically add me to the group when a spot opens up, then sends me an e-mail. Funny part was that I wasn't the 1st person on the list either time this happened. I got an email on Friday telling me I had been added to an event that was starting in 15 minutes!

    Hi Bill,
And so if you don't move up, I guess you just see there is space and add yourself in. Seems no notification is sent if you are moved up just need to check it personally.
New to the group and appreciate the help.

yes, nice ride...had a great time
about the wait list..I have found that if you on a wait list, you need to check really frequently because you may not automatically move up when someone cancels.

Ps It looks like not all 10 people went. I was on the "waitlist" but I did not see anything suggesting I got in. Do I need to look someplace specific to find this out or should I have received an email? Maybe I missed the email.

It's always good to check the night before, especially if you are on a waitlist. If you decide not to attend it's also a good idea to take yourself off the list, whether it be attendees list or wait list.

I didn't get in as it was full so I slept in. The may have been a better choice for me today anyway. However, I look forward to another opportunity.

I'm canceling out , not because I don't want to, but I am worried I will hold the group back. I am going to take a shorter starting ride, and join you another time. I don't want a sore butt for the entire weekend!Ha.

Yes, I get sore "back there" too! I've tried different seats and still can't get comfortable. I think many riders have this problem.

Just curious...why limit to 10 riders? Did a similar ride in Sonoma County in April, we had about 15 and it worked out great..

Hi Bill, We may open these rides up to more riders, but to start off, for safety reasons, I'm trying to keep the attendees limited to 10 or less. The bigger our groups of riders the more chances there are for problems with cars. Also, I didn't expect to see this much interest! So give me a chance to feel this out and I'll see about increasing the ridership.
