Shiloh Ranch Regional Park for a relaxing and short ramble! (Good Exercise)

Ahhhhh....this is a great place to wander around!  It's a great walk around Shiloh Ranch Regional Park.  Our pace will be steady at our usual avg. of 2.5mph.  It's about 3.5 miles with an elevation gain of around 600 feet.  This will probably take us less than 2 hours to do.  It's a great way to start your day!  It's short and will leave you with plenty of time to continue onto a productive remainder of the day.  For those of you just joining the Wanderers this is a great hike to start on.  It will be a great introduction to our pace and give you a feel for our hike rating system.  This is one of the easiest hikes we do and is rated "good exercise/easy".  It's important that you keep in mind that we rate the hikes based on how hard the hike would be for a moderate hiker.  For someone just starting or returning to hiking this will not seem easy.  It's rated "good exercise" because of the short length and relatively short climb of 600 ft.

We head out on Big Leaf Trail and quickly take a left onto Creekside trail for a walk up a canyon under shady pines and oaks.  After leaving the canyon we enter a grassy valley complete with a scenic pond.  We continue up the Ridge trail and take a left on South Ridge trail to reach the top of the park and the vista area.  We then continue down on South Ridge to Big Leaf trail to reach the parking area.  This hike does have hills but they are gradual and somewhat rolling.  As long as you are comfortable with hiking on trails and hills this is a great hike for the beginning to intermediate hiker.

It's a short hike, but as always it is a good idea to come prepared with the following:

  • Water
  • Sunblock/Hat
  • Layered clothing as it will start off cool but quickly warm up!
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • dogs are allowed at Shiloh County Park

FYI--THERE IS A $7.00 PARK ENTRY FEE TO PARK AT THIS PARK.  Thank you for supporting our park system!

The muted Fall hues of fallen leaves, left dry by lack of rain, added a special element to the beauty of the Shiloh landscape. The only way one might improve this hike would be to make it a tad longer. :-)

This was my first time at Shiloh. This was my first hike in many moons so the course was a bit challenging in a got a lot of oxygen today kinda way. Not too difficult though.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
