Come join our book club. We are a very simple book club as we just walk and talk! We will break into small groups to give us all a chance to hear and give input.  We all read the book before the hike and then hike as we discuss it.  We will walk up to the Lake Ilsanjo by way of Canyon Trail where we will stop by the lake for a little way and come back down on Spring Creek trail. This trail does have altitude gain of about 500 ft and some rocky parts on the trail that will require you to watch your footing. The mileage will be around 4-5 miles but it's a nice hike.

Driving Directions to Trailhead: -

From Highway 12 East Bound from 101

At the stoplight continue straight onto Hoen Ave.

Take a right at the light onto Summerfield Ave.

Take a left on Parktrail drive (2nd street on left).

Park about a 1/3 of a mile up the road; the trailhead is on the left.

The Language of Flowers: A Novel [Paperback]
Vanessa Diffenbaugh

Description:

The
Victorian language of flowers was used to convey romantic expressions:
honeysuckle for devotion, asters for patience, and red roses for love. But for
Victoria Jones, it’s been more useful in communicating mistrust and solitude.
After a childhood spent in the foster-care system, she is unable to get close to
anybody, and her only connection to the world is through flowers and their
meanings. Now eighteen and emancipated from the system with nowhere to go,
Victoria realizes she has a gift for helping others through the flowers she
chooses for them. But an unexpected encounter with a mysterious stranger has her
questioning what’s been missing in her life. And when she’s forced to confront a
painful secret from her past, she must decide whether it’s worth risking
everything for a second chance at happiness

Review:

A
mesmerizing, moving, and elegantly written debut novel, The Language of
Flowers
beautifully weaves past and present, creating a vivid portrait of an
unforgettable woman whose gift for flowers helps her change the lives of others
even as she struggles to overcome her own troubled past.

The Victorian
language of flowers was used to convey romantic expressions: honeysuckle for
devotion, asters for patience, and red roses for love. But for Victoria Jones,
it’s been more useful in communicating grief, mistrust, and solitude. After a
childhood spent in the foster-care system, she is unable to get close to
anybody, and her only connection to the world is through flowers and their
meanings.

Now eighteen and emancipated from the system, Victoria has
nowhere to go and sleeps in a public park, where she plants a small garden of
her own. Soon a local florist discovers her talents, and Victoria realizes she
has a gift for helping others through the flowers she chooses for them. But a
mysterious vendor at the flower market has her questioning what’s been missing
in her life, and when she’s forced to confront a painful secret from her past,
she must decide whether it’s worth risking everything for a second chance at
happiness.

Beautiful Ruins: A Novel (P.S.) [Paperback]

As always:

Give yourself time to find the trailhead so that you arrive prior to the scheduled time.  That is the time we head out on the trail.  It would be disappointing to miss having you on the hike due to late arrival.

Wear comfortable hiking shoes that are well broken in.

Bring plenty of water.

No snack stop on this hike.  Eat before you come.  We just keep on walking for this hike.

Bathroom facilities along the hike.

Dress in layers.  The hike starts off cool but rapidly warms up.

Please always check your email the night before just in case there are any necessary adjustments.

Bring your smile and great attitude!

See you on the trail!

Read the book prior to first scheduled hike(: have to review so I have my characters in order!!! Hopefully next book everyone will read before scheduled hike so we don't have to reschedule--often rescheduling ends up on an already busy day & I miss the discussion!!! Not fair(:
