Sunday Afternoon Annadel Hike: Around Lake Ilsanjo and Puma Trail 8 miles

A Sunday afternoon trip will allow everyone to accomplish things in the morning and still get in some good exercise and time with friends.  We will walk up  and beyond Lake Ilsanjo by way of Canyon Trail.  This week, we will continue beyond the lake on the Richardson Trail to the Burma Trail where we will head northward.  Then back west along the Live Oak Trail where after a short walk we will descend down the Rough Go Trail. This trail does have altitude gain of about 800 ft and some rocky parts on the trail that will require you to watch your footing. Our hike will be approximately 6 miles.  We will steadily ascend the on the Canyon Trail but as we reach the lake, the trail is fairly level until some up hill to the Puma Trail.  We will descend back down on the Rough Go Trail on rocky terrain.  It is very helpful to have hiking boots.

Driving Directions to Trailhead: -

From Highway 12 East Bound from 101

At the stoplight continue straight onto Hoen Ave.

Take a right at the light onto Summerfield Ave.

Take a left on Parktrail drive (2nd street on left).

Park about a 1/3 of a mile up the road; the trailhead is on the left.

Coordinates for trail head:  38.440758,-122.652184

As always:

Give yourself time to find the trailhead so that you arrive prior to the scheduled time.  That is the time we head out on the trail.  It would be disappointing to miss having you on the hike due to late arrival.

Wear comfortable hiking shoes that are well broken in.

Bring plenty of water.

We might stop for a short snack.

Bathroom facilities along the hike.

Dress in layers.  The hike starts off cool but rapidly warms up.

Please always check your email the night before just in case there are any necessary adjustments.

Bring your smile and great attitude!

See you on the trail!

Our team of 40 huddled up at the start, we ran some great plays up the mountain and even quickly passed the john. (not you John) With amazing tenacity, we crossed the goal line with less than 10% attrition. Touchdown Wanderers! Thank you guys for the great afternoon together.

Can you believe the schedule a football game on the same day as this hike. Probably killed the ratings. The hike was so much more awesome for this guy.

In the end, the hike was better than the football game anyway.

Two questions: Are well behaved dogs on leashes invited? And is it 6 miles or 8 miles?

    January 18

    • Kathy Sherman

Hi, Moira - Since Annadel is a State Park, no dogs allowed. I was told the fine is $350!?!

  • Pauline DeWitt

we would love to do this Sunday hike but it is about two hours too early(: not out of church until after 12

    January 18

  • Moira Brennan

But. But. But. The Niners game...

    1 · January 13

    • David Engel

The game starts at 3:30 pm and our hike starts at 12:00. Those on the hike will miss the start of the game, but we should be back in time to watch the 2nd half. Maybe somebody would offer to invite us over to watch the conclusion of the game. Possibly, I could have 10 or so people to watch it.
