Hood Mountain Via Pythian Rd Trailhead

Let's go to Hood Mtn. a different way.  Why?  Because the drive is a bit shorter, parking is easy and free for regional parks pass holders (or $7 if you don't),  and it's different. The hike is considered strenuous because of the 2000' elevation gain and a total length of 8 to 9 miles.  If you made the Mt. St Helena hike then it should be no problem.  We will have a lunch break around 11:30 and plan on being done around 1 (but no later than 2 for the football fans)

Here is the map: http://www.sonoma-county.org/parks/pdf/maps/hood_center.pdf

Suggested Carpool Locations:

SANTA ROSA: Caltrans Park & Ride lot adjacent to the Santa Rosa Veterans Memorial building. We gather by the Airporter pick up point to leave by 8:35

PETALUMA-Lucky at the intersection of Lakeville and Caulfield Ln. Park closest to Payran St. suggested leave by 8:20

As always:

◦Wear comfortable hiking shoes.
◦Dress in layers.  The hike will start off cool but warm up quickly!
◦Bring plenty of water-I'd say at least two bottles.  This trail is exposed and can be quite sunny.
◦Bring your smile and a positive attitude!
◦We'll be stopping to enjoy the view at the top so make sure to bring a lunch!
◦Always check the website the night before to see if there have been any necessary adjustments.

Hi Patricia, Sorry you missed us. The driving directions to the trailhead were listed in the "how to find us" section of the posting, which appears to go away once the event starting time happens. See you next time.

One to remember. The day it snowed on Mt. Hood, in a drought. Cold, driving wind and rain on top, but down by the ponds huge snowflakes falling into the evergreens. Beautiful trail, lush forest.

Where should I go if I'm not carpooling? I have a regional park pass.
Also, I did okay on the Gunsight Rock hike. Is this one easier or more difficult than that?
    Thanks, Wendy

Wendy you will have NO problem after Gunsight. It is just longer and there's a gnarly downhill on pavement at the end..,
