Hike #1 Sunday Afternoon Annadel Hike: Cobblestone and around Lake Ilsanjo.

TRIP #1 of 6 to hike all the trails of Annadel Park

An afternoon trip will allow everyone to accomplish things in the morning and still get in some good exercise and time with friends.  Join us on this series of hikes and get to know all the named trails in the park.  If you join in our Sunday afternoon hike series, you will get to hike all the trails in the park.  This is the first of 6 hikes to do the whole park.

We will ascend the Cobblestone Trail to the Orchard Loop, back to the Rough Go and down to the lake.  If we feel strong, we will walk all the way around the lake.. if not, we will walk around the near side of the lake to the Richardson Trail... following that to the North Burma Trail, down the Live Oak Canyon Trail and then back to the cars on the trail that parallels Channel Drive.  This is a easy moderate hike.  Just a little harder than easy... If you've been on my other Sunday afternoon hikes, this one will be a breeze.  Total length is 6.1 miles, but there are some ways we might add a little more length.

On recent trips, we have been seeing dozens of wild turkeys.  The males have been displaying their feathers.  So come out and hike with the turkeys.

Please read and be familiar with the guidelines of the group as listed below. It’s important before you come on a Wanderer hike that you agree and are prepared with the following.

As always:

Give yourself time to find the meeting place so that you arrive prior to the scheduled time. That is the time we head out on the trail. It would be disappointing to miss having you on the hike due to late arrival.

Wear comfortable hiking shoes that are well broken in.

Bring plenty of water.

We might stop for a short snack.

There is a bathroom facilities about 3-4 miles into the hike.

Dress in layers. The hike starts off cool but rapidly warms up.

Please always check your email the night before just in case there are any necessary adjustments.

Bring your smile and great attitude!

See you on the trail!!

BE PREPARED TO EAT BROWNIES.

What a funny hike.. a sensational day, a great group of people, but how did we keep loosing people? I suppose if there are not brownies at the end, people just want to turn around.

Thank you for a Sunday hike. The 12 noon time is perfect and it is good to enjoy Annadel while things are so green and gorgeous.

Great hike on some trails that were new to me. My knee caused me to turn back mid-way, but I certainly enjoyed the day. Thanks again David!

David- the map and directions are to Home Depot on Bicentennial Way. Any way to give written directions for those of us directionally challenged?

It is on the same road as last Sunday's hike. However, it is much closer to Spring Lake and the parking is free. Hopefully, no Ranger Bob either. This parking is often full on the weekend. It is better to park on Montgomery and walk across the dam thing.

Thanks David. Although for some of us ahem Home Depot is a great toy store, it is not so full of nature as most of us wish.

I am so sorry I have to back out today. I love these hikes, but I have had too much fun over spring break and I have a lot to do today to get ready for work tomorrow. I can't wait for summer so I can hike on any day I want to. Have fun everyone!

Pulled my hamstring slightly, hiking Mt. Tam today. Am changing my RSVP to "no" for now. If I'm OK in the morning, I'll see if the RSVPs are still open. Didn't want to cancel out last minute.

Hi David, is there a limit on the number of people you are going to allow on this hike?

    March 17, 2014

    • David E.

Dan, at this time, I have no limit posted. If there was a sudden wild response, I might make a limit. I don't anticipate that.

Thanks, David. I'm still solidifying my weekend plans. Hope to make your hike. I appreciate your offer to educate us.

Often the Cobblestone Trail Parking lot is packed on Sunday afternoon. It is possible to park on Montgomery Drive and walk across the drainage structure to the trail head. This link is to a map showing the optional parking area. Look at the satellite view to see the drainage structure. https://goo.gl/maps/YXKEd

is this hike moderate or strenuous?

    March 17, 2014

    • David E.

Hi Celeste, it is moderate.. or slightly less than moderate. It is one of the easier trips we will do at Annadel.
