Annadel Extravaganza! (Strenuous ) 14+ miles 1600 feet

  • This location is shown only to members

This trip will start with Lawndale trail, mosey onto Marsh to take a right onto South Burma Trail...looping around Lake Ilsanjo where we will stop for about 10 minutes then we hit the Marsh trail where we will stop at a picnic table for  for lunch! After lunch we will head back to the Marsh trail to catch the delightful Ridge Trail until we connect back with Marsh to wander back to Lawndale and down to our cars. The combination of trails will provide a great loop with wonderful mileage!  Native bunchgrasses thrive beneath oaks, manzanita, and California bay! Annadel is just a delight for hiking! It will be a nice hike...long mostly it will be gentle hills on shady wooded trails.

A copy of the Annadel park brochure with a complete trail map is available at:

From Hwy 101 and Hwy 12 in Santa Rosa, drive 1.54 miles west on Hwy 12 to Farmers Lane. Turn left and drive one mile to 4th street, following the Hwy 12 signs. Turn right and continue 8.4 miles to Lawndale Road. Turn right and go 1.1 mile to the trailhead parking lot on the right.

FOR car pools please document your car pool info in your RSVP comments. . Car pool etiquette- Come prepared to drive, be aware that there may be no others wanting to car pool from your selected location or there might be a lot of people and everyone might want to ride. We determine who gets the rider seats by who has most recently been a driver in the past. This is worked out based by who shows up at the car pool location. We can't guarantee anyone a seat because we never know until that day who will show up.  We do our best to work it out and make everyone happy but we need everyone to pitch in and help make it work!

Then PLEASE if possible try to use the three locations below. The more locations we have the less effective we are and it's so much more complicated. Exceptions would be if you are not close to either location.

Car pool locations:

Coddingtown Library parking lot suggested leave at 8:35

Petaluma-Lucky at the intersection of Lakeville and Caulfield Ln. Park closest to Payran St. suggested leave by 8:15

Windsor Lakewood Shopping Center in front of the old Denny's-Leave at 8:25

General room of thumb...$5 one hour or less to trailhead $8 over one hour to trailhead Please insist your driver accept the money. It's to cover more than gas's the wear and tear on the vehicle. We like to take care of our drivers!

As always:

We combine enjoyment of the trail with respect for everyone’s time.   A steady pace and we just keep going!

Please always check your email the night before just in case there are any necessary adjustments.  This is especially important if there are any weather issues.  Cancellations due to weather will be posted by 10pm the previous evening.

Give yourself time to find the trail head so that you arrive prior to the scheduled time.  That is the time we head out on the trail.  It would be disappointing to miss having you on the hike due to late arrival.  We do NOT wait our of respect for those who arrived on time.

Wear comfortable hiking shoes with good rugged soles that are well broken in.

Duration: 6-7 hours  this is a great hike to enjoy a glass of wine at the end if anyone is interested in bringing some!

Facilities: None

Dogs?: No

Bring plenty of water.

Dress in layers.  The hike starts off cool but you will warm up as you start moving.

Bring snacks for your pocket and lunch.  This will be a 6 hour hike!

Bring your smile and great attitude!    If you are a fast hiker you will be waiting.  If you are a slow hiker (this is not a hike for beginners) you will find that we head off up the trail as soon as you are within close visual sight of the group. Please make sure this is something that you will enjoy!  We are ALL about trail enjoyment while respecting everyone’s time!

See you on the trail!

Nothing like a rowdy walk with the Wanderers. Makes you want to jump in a puddle. A great day, a nice hike and perfect leadership.

Check out picture #9 for our dance routine. It's great!
