This should be a pleasant hike through a mixture of forest and coastal vegetation looping to the north of the Bear Valley Road. This will be a long hike with approximately 3000 feet of elevation gain. Bring plenty of water as it may be warm!

NOTE: There still may be a healthy amount of poison oak and stinging nettle on this hike.

An easy way to know if you would enjoy this hike is if you are able to say yes to the following:

• I have been hiking 15+ miles in the last couple of weeks.

• I have been hiking trails with an altitude gain of over 3000 feet regularly and consistently in the past few months.

• I consider myself an experienced and fit hiker and can navigate rough terrain while maintaining a fast pace

DESCRIPTION: Here are the trails for this hike:

Bear Valley Vistor's Center to Meadow TR < Meadow TR < Sky TR < Coast TR < Laguna TR < Sky TR < Horse TR < BVVC

Directions from Petaluma

-From Highway 101, take the East Washington Street exit.

-Follow East Washington Street southwest about 0.6 miles (1 km) to Lakeville Street.

-Turn left and proceed southeast one block to D Street.

-Turn right onto D Street, which will become the Point Reyes-Petaluma Road, and head southwest for about 16 miles (25 km) to the junction with Platform Bridge Road.

-Turn right to stay on the Point Reyes-Petaluma Road and continue west for about 3 miles (5 km) to the junction with California Highway 1 in the town of Point Reyes Station.

-Turn left onto Highway 1, drive south through Point Reyes Station and continue south on Highway 1 approximately 2.5 miles (4 km). Look for a brown "Point Reyes National Seashore" sign just beyond the Olema RV Resort & Campground. If you get to a flashing red light, you've gone 100 yards (100 m) too far.

-Turn right onto Bear Valley Road and head west about 1/2 mile (0.8 km). Look for a big red barn on the left and a sign for "Visitor Center; Headquarters; Information" on the right.

-Turn left after passing by the red barn and proceed up the left fork of the driveway to the Bear Valley Visitor Center, the park's primary contact station where you will pass the visitor center and go to the large dirt parking lot on your left.

As always:

Please always check your email the night before just in case there are any necessary adjustments.  This is especially important if there are any weather issues.  Cancellations due to weather will be posted by 10 pm the previous evening.

Give yourself time to find the trail head so that you arrive prior to the scheduled time.  That is the time we head out on the trail.  It would be disappointing to miss having you on the hike due to late arrival.

6 am would have been ok. In June we have daylight at that time and everything is so cool and fresh.
