The Pinnacles! West Entrance (Mountain Goat hiking)

This is the second of a two day event. Though, if you would like to just participate in one day that is great too!

General details for the entire hike and the 1st day can be found at:

Did You Know?
California condors have a wingspan approaching 10 feet. Condors soar and glide at up to 50 miles per hour, and can sometimes be mistaken for a small airplane. Did you ever want to see one? Well we saw plenty of them in February 2012 and we hope for more of the same on this trip!!
This is our 2nd (be sure to check Saturday too) of two days planned. Today is mountain goat day! We are doing Juniper Canyon, Hight Peaks, Old Pinnacles and Balconies Trails! We go through a cave(you'll need a flashlight!), climb up steps carved into the stone and you should NOT be afraid of heights to hike this trail. This trail is a showstopper! We will see rocky spires, gaze upon high peaks and get plenty of exercise. This is a challenging trail with steep ascents. The trail is 9 miles with 1500 feet of elevation gain. Bring a lunch!

If you are a physically fit hiker...this is a trail that YOU MUST DO!

Directions:

From Hwy 101 in Soledad, take the Soledad/Hwy 146 exit eastbound. Drive 12 miles to the road's end at a parking lot in Pinnacles National Monument. From the Harvest Inn (where most of us will be staying) it is a 25 min drive.

There is a fee of $5 per car to enter the park.

I made it home and I'm still smiling! Ohhhh...the times we have. And...yes...what happens at the Pinnacles...stays at the Pinnacles. It amazes me that a group of people can go on a trip like that together and just have a wonderful time. No grumpy problems, no tears, no arguing...etc... just laughter, exercise, comaraderie and sheer enjoyment. The Pinnacles never cease to just amaze me with their unique and dramatic beauty! I'm so glad you all were there to share it with me! Thank you!!!!!!!

Extraordinary! Thanks to each and every! Most of all to Leigh, Grand Marshall of the Soledad Parade! A riotous good time! Marcia, it was impressive to see you put those EMT skills to work.
Thankful that none of US needed them, but good to know they're there!

Absolutely phenomenal! An amazing experience way above and beyond anything I could have expected. I am so grateful I went! Great thanks to Leigh for all the hard work organizing the trip, and to all my fellow Wanderers for making it extraordinary.

An unbelievable day on the trail! The morning serenade of the coyotes, the condors soaring above the pinnacles, the contrasts in the landscape and the trail winding, at times, narrowly along the ledges, crevasses and through the caves of these great rock formations.
I couldn't have imagined a better weekend with this group of Wanderers. Thank you all for your conversation, laughter and great food! Thank you Leigh for a putting this Wanderful weekend together.
