The club has purchased a LaMotte Water Analysis Kit. We are testing different water sources in the Santa Rosa area. We will go over the results of those tests and how to use the Brewlab kit at this class. We also will cover some basic Brewing Chemistry. Minerals dissolved in brewing water produce important effects on the overall chemistry of the brewing process. The ions from these minerals alter the water’s pH, Hardness, Alkalinity, Residual Alkalinity, and Mineral Content. These interrelated components are the most important factors in defining the suitability of water for brewing. Adjustments to any one factor can have an effect on the others. We will also go over what styles of beer are best suited for the local water, with out doing much adjustment. The Brewlab test kit is from the LaMotte company. You can view all the instructions about the kit on their website. http://www.lamotte.com/en/food-beverage/7188-01.html The presenters of this class will be Award Winning Brewers, Kevin Teel, and Michael Kelly. Both have given presentations to the club on Brewing water Chemistry in the past.
