My interests have included the philosophy of science (especially positivism, philosophy of mind and neurophilosophy [e.g., brain/mind studies], modern scientific skepticism), ontology, epistemology, ancient Eastern philosophy/religious thought, and at least some aspects of humanism which (thus far) I find too amorphous to get a handle on. My world view has been loosely influenced by a rather ideologically diverse range of philosophers and scientific thinkers such as Claude Lévi-Strauss, Thomas Khun, Karl Popper, John Eccles, Humberto Maturana, Francisco Varela, and Michio Kaku. Yet I am also fascinated with the knowledge advanced by Plotinus, certain Vedic philosophers/mystics, Immanuel Kant, etc. At this point in my life I want to revisit ancient Western philosophical traditions while also broadening my knowledge of philosophy, in general.
I am interested in intellectual discussion groups on a wide range of topics, including philosophy. This seems like it would be a great opportunity to enrich my background ...and right in the SFV.
This is a great group for anyone interested in examining a wide range of philosophical issues in an understandable way.
