What a blast! Let's do it again!
Posted by Sean Utt May 17, 2012OK I'm at the Lucky Lab if anyone wants to come geek out early! I'm wearing a white SoundCloud shirt. Can't miss it! ;)
Posted by Zefora May 17, 2012we're in the back by the piano!
Posted by Zefora May 17, 2012We've moved into the side room!
Posted by Zefora May 17, 2012SEEE YOU GUYS TONIGHT @ 7PM!!
Posted by Abacus Press May 17, 2012I'll have stickers and buttons and I'll also be signing people up to beta test the Next SoundCloud. :) Can't wait to see you all there! :D
Posted by Zefora May 17, 2012Very exciting! I can't wait to finally meet my fellow Portland SoundClouders and geek out about music! :D
Posted by Nick Pfisterer May 17, 2012Have a great Global Meetup Day!! remember to tweet/tag photos, sounds, words as #scmeetup :)
Posted by Soundcloud May 17, 2012So what's the plan guys? I see no link to a forum or even a Facebook event. The meetup is in less than two weeks.
Posted by Abacus Press May 9, 2012...
Zefora?
I can help too, let me know if you need a photographer, blogger, social media insight as well. I can make the FB group too if you want, or you could put multiple people on as administrators. Let me know where I can help!
Posted by Abacus Press May 13, 2012I'd love the help! Definitely. The only snag with starting a facebook page or forum is I have to get clearance from SoundCloud on the name, etc. I've got an email in to Jane so hopefully she'll get back to me today. And just so everyone knows, I contacted the restaurant and they're cool with us showing up Thursday. The side room is currently free, so if it's still empty when we get there, we can use it so long as we leave the doors open so other people can come in. :)
Posted by Zefora May 14, 2012Hi Everyone! If you are an organizer and have not already filled out this form ( http://bit.ly/IgkbiA
) PLEASE do this so I can email you :) It is very important. Swag requests have stopped but the form still needs to be filled out. Thank you!

Posted by Soundcloud May 10, 2012Ohhhh mann I'm so jealous. I contemplated buying that ticket for months! The music line-up is ridiculous!
Posted by Abacus Press May 11, 2012The funny thing is the line up was the last thing I looked at AFTER deciding I was going! I'm going down to volunteer. I originally wasn't interested in going. The universe made it happen. My jaw did drop after I finally saw the line up though.
Posted by Adrian Thomas-Eikmann May 11, 2012It'd be great to focus on this event being a planning meeting for future events! If we get sidetracked on everybody sharing their music we might not grow and thrive as much. We need to make this awesome in the long run and that means more planning&less music sharing at first. But maybe we could setup a forum online for people attending to listen to each other's stuff prior to the event? I mean if 95% of you make really bad electronic music I'd rather know that before I show up rather than after.
Posted by Deane Rimerman April 16, 2012I make horrible electronic music and I'm still going ;)
Posted by The BS of D May 2, 2012LOL!
Posted by Zefora May 2, 2012Hey gang. Who's in charge? Lots of talking about talking about planning something. Here's the deal. I've been an event promoter since 1999, and have a plethera of other services to offer. I also have a lot of domains, and unlimited hosting, and can easily set up a discussion forum. Put me in coach!
Posted by The BS of D April 26, 2012I'll be setting up a forum this weekend. I know a really good one that will work well for us! I've had a lot of success with it in the past. Upcoming events will be clearly visible, and we can share photos, sounds, have discussions, and everyone gets their own blog to use. I'll post a link here once it's up and I'll be sending out messages to Portlanders on SoundCloud as well. As many as I can find, anyway. I know some of you are hiding. ;) feel free to invite friends and family as well!
Posted by Zefora April 26, 2012Ok BS of D...just read your message again. Hit me up via private message on SoundCloud. I have some questions about maybe using your forum expertise! Thanks! :) Http://soundcloud.com/zefora
Posted by Zefora April 26, 2012are minors allowed in?
Posted by sean welter April 26, 2012Yes.
Posted by Adrian Thomas-Eikmann April 26, 2012Hey Alex, is there a reason you changed the venue? Is Laurelwood all ages or exclusively a bar? Will it accommodate a meetup of a slowly growing group of people? Feel free to drop some info and thoughts here on why you changed it from Lucky Lab. I'm all for open discussion about finding the right place, but I want to make sure we keep this open to everyone (especially if we have parents and teens coming) and that no one gets confused about where the meetup is.
Posted by Zefora April 16, 2012laurelwood is a family restaurant, of course!
Posted by Alex Phillips April 16, 2012Well that's fine, but if everyone can just go changing the venue on a whim without discussing it, it's going to get confusing. No one will know where to go. Is there a reason Laurelwood works really well for a SoundCloud meetup?
Posted by Zefora April 16, 2012It's pretty roomy, and it's very close to burnside, makes it easier to get there from i 84.
Posted by Alex Phillips April 16, 2012That and it'd be nice if my girlfriend could come, since she's 18 and not 21, I don't want to leave just because my girlfriend has to leave.
Posted by Alex Phillips April 16, 2012Hi there! I've been reading today from my phone but waited to respond so I can type on a key board.
I strongly feel that Laurelwood is not condusive for a meet up. I love their food and beer and go there with my son (6yr) so I know that it would be way to crowded to get anything substantial accomplished and I would not be interested.
Posted by Adrian Thomas-Eikmann April 16, 2012As far as all of the OLCC rules go, Lucky Lab is the same type of establishment. They also have a little room that we could probably take over with a door.
(continued) I don't know if we'd have to reserve that room, but it's there. If our numbers grow, then I'm sure through either passing the hat, or help from soundcloud, we can work it. Also, the tables in the main area are longer and we could fit more people easily. Lucky Lab is easier to get to from 84. I live in this area so I know the routes & can provide.
Posted by Adrian Thomas-Eikmann April 16, 2012Having said all of thist, I'm not going to the 17th meet up so I'm sharing this for the benefit of the group.
I feel we can eventually find something that can accommodate us even better than the Lucky Lab, but for right now (and again I won't be there), I feel a more intimate setting were we can meet and plan for future meet ups might be best for now.
Posted by Adrian Thomas-Eikmann April 16, 2012is the lucky lab open to adults under tha age of 21?
Posted by Alex Phillips April 16, 2012How's the event looking? Don't see much discussion here... Personally I'd love to see a 2012 SC meetup include some live performances, and think it may also attract more soundclouders/followers... is it too late to find a venue with a stage?
Posted by The BS of D April 16, 2012(continued)
Posted by Adrian Thomas-Eikmann April 16, 2012A venue with a stage would likely want a sound man. ($)
A venue with a stage probably already has a show on a Thur and needs to be doing load in & sound checks.
Provided we did find a venue that suited that, it would be difficult to smoothly and consistently run something where multiple full bands and laptoppers set up and play 1 or 2 songs each.
The other meet up I attend lets us in @ 7, we get booted near 9. It's a bar but since they're not open under 21 can attend.
(continued) Everyone at that one plays tracks of of laptops, ipods or phones. We get to turn up the system!
Posted by Adrian Thomas-Eikmann April 16, 2012Now, here's where the fun can begin!!!
We have meet ups & get to know each other and network right? Well then either as a group or in separate efforts can have "showcases". In a showcase there would be more room for each band or project to shine in a proper show format. If done well, I could envision soundcloud possibly picking up some of the tab to make it happen.
Just my two cents
Looking fwd to the Meet Up! How about at the Lucky Lab on Hawthorne?
Posted by Chris Gates April 10, 2012I actually won't make the 17th meet up. There's a festival & I'm getting a free ticket for volunteering.
Posted by Adrian Thomas-Eikmann April 15, 2012Ah, that's too bad, but let's keep in touch for future meetups. I'd love to start making this a monthly thing.
Posted by Zefora April 16, 2012How is planning going for everyone so far? Remember to fill out this form to get your swag: http://bit.ly/IgkbiA
We are so excited for May 17th!!
Posted by Soundcloud April 11, 2012Is there still need for a venue? I was hoping to spearhead a meet up and I see there is one in the works already. If you don't mind, I might be able to help with a few things. I just sent in my info to get a meet up kit sent my way.
Posted by Adrian Thomas-Eikmann April 10, 2012Congrats!
Yeah my job is just to encourage the community to grow and act as a sort of bridge between all of you and the SoundCloud Community Team. Like we're building this grassroots SoundCloud Community here in person. They are super supportive of whatever it is we're doing and they're going to help us grow and promote what we do; shows, events, meetings, collabs, projects, whatever. I am your link to that resource. We may start small, but I think this could blow up into something huge.
Posted by Zefora April 10, 2012I'm definitely not here to tell everyone what to do. I'm here to help you get it done. I want you all to take ownership of your own community and take charge of organizing anything whenever you feel the inspiration. Just keep me informed so I can help you. It's much easier to get people together and involved when they're excited and feel involved instead of one person just telling everyone what to do and where to go. I want YOU to tell ME what we're going to do. It'll be way more fun :)
Posted by Zefora April 10, 2012I'm going to try to put the word out on SoundCloud by sending private messages. Hopefully we can get more enthusiastic people to join us :)
Posted by Zefora April 10, 2012I think this global meet-up is a fantastic opportunity for PORTLAND SOUNDCLOUDERS to meet up!! I've been wanting to meet others from the Soundcloud community for awhile and I think we can get some great things planned. I want to hear Soundcloud stories, how people are getting involved, why people love music, what plans they have..LET'S MEET!
