South Bank Ramblers formed more than twenty years ago. The group has a diverse membership covering a range of ages and backgrounds.
Although most members are based in the boroughs of Lambeth and Southwark, others are drawn from a number of London boroughs or even further afield. A love of walking is the group's engine and focus; for some it is a pleasure, for others a passion.
The group provides a comprehensive programme of walks. The walks take place, most usually, somewhere in the South East of England and are accessible from London by public transport. Walks vary in length, usually between four and eighteen miles, and vary in difficulty, anything from the comfortably paced to the positively challenging. They often include an optional pub refreshment stop, either during or after the walk, giving members the opportunity to get to know one another.
Saturdays and Sundays are the more usual walking days but the group also, and increasingly, organizes walks on weekdays. These weekday walks include interest walks within London. In the summer months, on Wednesday evenings, the group organizes a 'London's Waterways' programme of walks. At a leisurely pace, the routes of these walks cover many points of interest.
On occasion the group also organizes weekend trips of two or three days duration. We ask participants to join the Ramblers as a member of the Southbank group after trying out our walks up to 3 times . Join here http://www.ramblers.org.uk/become-a-member....
