American Mah Jongg - for experienced & beginning players (maybe separate tables)

Experienced & Beginning players of American Mah Jongg, come join us and play at JoElla's house in Redwood City!

I, James, am helping her organize it. And, I'll be teaching beginners the basics.

If we have enough people to separate into 2 tables (e.g. 3 experienced & 2 beginners for me to teach), I'll teach beginners at a separate table. Otherwise, I'll show the beginners how to play by showing them what hand to play & playing it with them.

American Mah Jongg is played using a card showing the possible winning hands. We'll have 4 cards for 2014 to use for the beginners table, but if you have your own, please bring it. The 2014 card is available now (in regular or large print) at:

The RSVP limit allows for 5 per table. If we have 5, we'll rotate someone out each hand, which is about 15 minutes. The person sitting out can bet on who will win by looking at all the hands. No money, just bragging rights... :)

JoElla has a cute little well training dog, with a nice bark sometimes. You're not allergic to dogs (or anything else we should know about) are you?

Non-smokers only please, since she's allergic to smoke even on clothes.

If you haven't played here before, please answer the RSVP questions (about the 3 things just mentioned above), so we can make sure you know.

I'll send out a meetup email to those who RSVP with the address, probably very late the TH before (unless you email me that you need it earlier), and then again to any later RSVPers. We're currently looking at having these events on the 2nd and 4th (or maybe 5th) Saturdays. I'll plan to post them about 1 month ahead.

If everyone could bring a snack to share, that'd be great.

If all goes well I can host but I just have room for one card table and chairs inside. I don't have the card table or chairs. I don't have pets or kiddos. I am also a non smoker.

James and Pam were great folks to share my first Mah Jongg experience with. James was exceptionally patient with me, as he starting teaching me the game! I only wish we could have had more players show up.

You were lots of fun, sorry my allergies made me feel just horrible.

Sorry, I'm not going to be able to attend. Not feeling well. I look forward to coming next time.
