Going Reactive with Java 8

Going Reactive with Java 8

Reactive programming is a new paradigm for next generation applications that provides a programming model to take full advantage of modern hardware platforms. Kip Sigman from Typesafe will show how to build event-driven, scalable, resilient, and responsive applications with Java 8, Play Framework and Akka.

Speaker Bio:

Kip Sigman has 15 years of experience as a software engineer and consultant specializing in JVM languages/frameworks. He has developed a wide range of applications for the Internet advertising space such as ad tracking, reporting, SEM bidding engines, and Web APIs. Kip is currently a Consultant / Instructor for Typesafe, helping people to develop modern software applications using their Reactive platform.

The door is locked. Is there a way I can call in?

I'll be coming with about 3-5 people from my company. Our director of engineering had the following question:
"If we use play and java 8, we gain a lot of of reactive design patterns and functional programming constructs. What exactly will we lose by not using scala and play in comparison?"

    Note from the Speaker:

This isn't necessary but if some of you want to follow along when I do a demo they can follow these setup instructions:

    1. Download Typesafe Activator - Note: On Mac you can get this from homebrew.

    2. There's a number of Java8 activator templates I'll use snippets from, but I'll be demo-ing "Reactive Stocks (Java 8)" towards the end of the presentation.

I'm new on the group. I've been living in LA for 5 months and I would like to be part of this meetup.

Can you give me more details?

      Hi Roberto,
We are a JVM languages user group in South Bay. We try to find speakers who can present on topics related. We meet once a month in El Segundo in VirtualTourist office. You can check out our previous talks here: to get an idea of the talks we have had.

Hope to see you in one of the upcoming talks.

Wow I'm so there. At Verifi, we've started to plan a POC with this exact architecture. I will try to bring people.
