Fremont Older - After Work

  • Apr 25, 2013 · 5:45 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Lets Ride!

This will be a medium paced for advanced beginner+ riders. This is not a beginner paced ride.  It will be about 1-1.5 hours, or more if sunlight permits.

Meet at the Fremont Older Preserve parking lot on Prospect Road in Cupertino by the information sign. Arrive early as the parking lot does fill up fast. Hope everyone will join me for a fun ride. Bring water and be sure your bike is ready to ride.

RSVPing YES for a ride and not showing will get you moved to the wait list on the next ride you do wish to go on. Please be courteous and drop out early enough to give the more reliable riders a chance to adjust their schedules and attend.

Tires roll at 5:49 PM or sooner if all YES RSVP's are present.
This is a great place for a fun workout.

Ride Details
Difficulty as noted in my Mtn Biking guide book is: "Easy to moderate, with smooth wide trails for beginners and a few short single-tracks. On my scale of 1-5, 1 being easy - this may be a 2.5 level ride.

Remember, all riders need to be members of & South Bay Mountain Bike Group. Guest are no longer allowed. All riders need to RSVP as a member.

Exit Highway 85 at De Anza Boulevard. (From northbound Hwy. 85 turn left on De Anza Blvd. and from southbound Hwy. 85 turn right on De Anza Blvd.) Travel west on De Anza Blvd. (toward the mountains) for about 0.5 miles. Turn right on Prospect Rd. Then at the first stop sign, turn left and cross the railroad tracks to remain on Prospect Rd. Follow Prospect Road uphill for 1.3 miles, turning left after the Saratoga Country Club, until you reach the preserve parking lot.

Rain will cancel. I will post a weather update here by 8 AM the day of the ride.

***Please remember, a helmet is required for all our rides***

I need better notification when coming off the waiting list. Stuck at work at this point and can't make the 5:45.

You've been off the waiting list for at least several days. I suggest you check the ride more often and figure out your notification settings.

Last thursday, I was a couple minutes late and missed the group, but rode nonetheless. I went on 7 springs and then a trail past hunter's point. There was a nice killer hill on 7 springs trail, but the rest was non-impressive and kinda sketch: I kept on drifting in turns and my front tire slid in almost every turn.

Is the rest of this preserve the same? or are there parts that are actually worth the traffic to ride there?

Ok. I think I'll stick to coyote hills and mission peak on weekdays.

I have been riding in Fremont Older since the 90s, as an easy and quick place to get a ride in. It does have some sketchy turns that are reverse cambered, and sandy. I hurt my shoulder going down on my new 29er last summer. My stock Specialized tires do suck. I don't see how you can do more than an hour in this park even if you go to Maisy's peak and Hunters Point and do 7 springs forward and back. Be careful out there. :)
