Fremont Older ~ Beginner Friendly Ride

  • Sep 24, 2013 · 4:45 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

This will be an easy, slow pace for everyone to get out to ride. It will be about 6-7 miles, 60-90 minutes, and beginner friendly. If you've been riding around local trails like Guadalupe, Baylands, or Los Gatos Creek but want to try some hills and some singletrack, this is your chance to progress. Relaxed riders of any level are welcome, but the beginners will determine the pace.

I reserve the right to cancel the ride if less than 4 people are listed as Attending at the time RSVPs close.

Meet at the Fremont Older Preserve parking lot on Prospect Road in Cupertino by the information sign. Arrive early as the parking lot does fill up fast. Hope everyone will join me for a fun ride. Bring water and be sure your bike is ready to ride.

Tires roll at 4:55 PM or sooner if all YES RSVP's are present.

Ride Details
Difficulty as noted in my Mtn Biking guide book is: "Easy to moderate, with smooth wide trails for beginners and a few short single-tracks. On my scale of 1-5, 1 being easy - this may be a level 2 ride.

Remember, all riders need to be members of & South Bay Mountain Bike Group. Guest are no longer allowed. All riders need to RSVP as a member.

Exit Highway 85 at De Anza Boulevard. (From northbound Hwy. 85 turn left on De Anza Blvd. and from southbound Hwy. 85 turn right on De Anza Blvd.) Travel west on De Anza Blvd. (toward the mountains) for about 0.5 miles. Turn right on Prospect Rd. Then at the first stop sign, turn left and cross the railroad tracks to remain on Prospect Rd. Follow Prospect Road uphill for 1.3 miles, turning left after the Saratoga Country Club, until you reach the preserve parking lot.

Rain will cancel. I will post a weather update here by 8 AM the day of the ride.

***Please remember, a helmet is required for all our rides***

Well, I've been doing some light running, but that's about it... I'm as (pleasantly) surprised as you are! :)

Thanks for hosting another great ride, Michelle! Out of curiosity, what are you referring to with "Toyon" in this context? The Internet is telling me that a Toyon is a kind of shrub...?

Hi Eugene. I was referring to the number of singletrack trail sections we rode along a trail called Toyon. We only did the first section "Toyon 1" and instead of taking Toyons 2 and 3 (which are progressively steeper, tougher trails) we took the relatively flat fire road that parallels them, called Bay View Trail. Check out the map if you are interested: http://www.openspace....

Ooh, thanks for educating me! For some reason I was assuming it was a general name for a terrain feature or something. :)
