This ride is for those that are new to Skegg's, if you're new to mountain biking... this ride location is not for you. Not sure, just ask me.
We will ride at a slower pace on an easy route, this will allow you to enjoy one of the best places to ride in the area. This is by far one of my favorite places to hit the trails. Come join me and others to see for yourself. I know you have heard about Skegg's and how hard it can be, yes you will need to climb.
As event host, I will reserve the right to change your RSVP should I feel you're not ready for this ride location or are too advanced. This will be a mellow ride.
This will be a level "2-3" group ride, about 7-9 miles in the wooded single-track paradise known as El Corte de Madera Creek Open Space Preserve (commonly called Skegg's Point after the CalTrans scenic overlook/parking lot that is adjacent to it) in Woodside, Ca.
We will meet at 12:00 PM & leave from the "scenic" parking lot.
Tires roll at 12:14 PM or sooner if all YES RSVP's are present. Rain will cancel.
Remember, all riders need to be members of Meetup.com & South Bay Mountain Bike Group. Guest are no longer allowed. All riders need to RSVP as a member.
There may be some parking on the side of the road at the trailhead, however the parking lot will have many more. I plan to park at the scenic lot with this sign.
Difficulty: Can be difficult; challenging climbs; technical singletrack with rocks, drops, ruts, & roots. However, we will have a mellow ride for you.
Trail surface: 40 percent singletrack, 60 percent dirt road for this ride.
Best to ride in summer when trails are dry and has lots of shade. Plan to ride 3ish hours?
From 280, exit onto highway 84 West and head through Woodside toward the hills.
Follow 84 to the top of the hill at the 4 way intersection.
Turn right on Skyline/35 heading North for about 4-5 miles until you see the above
sign for the parking lot on the right.
Meet at the parking lot near the Skeggs Point entrance. You may see cars parked on the roadside at various spots, but where we're meeting is a real parking lot. Please note that if you're coming from the north, the parking lot is on the left and you cannot legally turn there. You will need to go down a bit further and carve a U-turn where there is a pullout.
Please remember to wear a helmet, bring water, and check that your bike is ready to ride. Also remember to carry an extra tube and a chain master link with you that fits your bike. Its ok if you need help to repair it, you will have the items needed to keep your ride going.
***Please remember, a helmet is required for all our rides.***
