Wanna try racing?  If you are in good condition,  I encourage you to give racing a try.  There is a difference between a group ride and a race.  A race is much, much faster.

This will be an Advanced ride with a blistering, punishing pace.

Distance: 18miles - For Categories 2& 3.

Riding time: 1+ hours

Difficulty trail rating: 3???  -

Stamina rating: 3+ - 18 miles on a mountain bike is a lot.

Pace rating: 5- This is racing, baby.

Tires roll at 9:00 for Cats 2 & 3.  They will leave without you

Directions: See the Sea Otter website for directions. http://www.seaotterclassic.com/index.cfm/directions.htm

I suggest getting there an long before your race time.  You may want to show up a couple days early and pre-ride the course

You will need a racing license to race

Please consult the The Sea Otter Classic website for full information:

That was fun. I got stuck in back at the start, then just slowly worked my way up. Two of my friends won their races, so that was sweet. I finished mid-pack 17th of 60.

I hope we have better luck in XC than Enduro!

LOL. I didn't even get to the starting line. Broke the frame of my bike, probably during my first practice run on the DH course.

I thought we raced the Open category in our age bracket. Am I mistaken?

I think you're confusing enduro's format to XC. A lot of people show up at different skill levels for XC so it's broken down into categories along with age groups.
