Fremont Older ~ Beginner Friendly Ride

  • Mar 11, 2014 · 4:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

RSVPs open two weeks prior to the ride at 12 noon.

This will be an easy, mellow pace for everyone to get out to ride. It will be about 6-7 miles, 1 1/2-2 hours, and beginner friendly. If you've been riding around local trails like Guadalupe, Baylands, or Los Gatos Creek but want to try some hills and some singletrack, this is your chance to progress. Relaxed riders of any level are welcome, but the beginners will determine the pace.

I reserve the right to cancel the ride if less than 4 people are listed as Attending at the time RSVPs close.

Meet at the Fremont Older Preserve parking lot on Prospect Road in Cupertino by the information sign. Arrive early as the parking lot does fill up fast. Hope everyone will join me for a fun ride. Bring water and be sure your bike is ready to ride.

Tires roll at 4:40 PM or sooner if all YES RSVP's are present.

Ride Details

Difficulty as noted in my Mtn Biking guide book is: "Easy to moderate, with smooth wide trails for beginners and a few short single-tracks. On my scale of 1-5, 1 being easy - this may be a level 2 ride.

Remember, all riders need to be members of Meetup.com & South Bay Mountain Bike Group. Guests are no longer allowed. All riders need to RSVP as a member.

Exit Highway 85 at De Anza Boulevard. (From northbound Hwy. 85 turn left on De Anza Blvd. and from southbound Hwy. 85 turn right on De Anza Blvd.) Travel west on De Anza Blvd. (toward the mountains) for about 0.5 miles. Turn right on Prospect Rd. Then at the first stop sign, turn left and cross the railroad tracks to remain on Prospect Rd. Follow Prospect Road uphill for 1.3 miles, turning left after the Saratoga Country Club, until you reach the preserve parking lot.

Rain will cancel. I will post a weather update here by 8 AM the day of the ride.

Great start to the Tuesday night riding season. Thanks to all who made it out! I didn't see the ambulance, but glad the roadie is doing reasonably
OK. Idiots in cars are the main reason I don't ride the road. Stay dirty my friends!

What an awesome ride - and a great day for my first time at Fremont Older. Thank you for organizing Michelle. It was great meeting you all. I hope the injured person getting CPR near the train tracks is ok though. Anyone have any information on that?

Yikes! I saw the emergency vehicles, but didn't see what was going on.

Thanks Michelle for a great ride! A roadie was struck by a car on that intersection. No CPR was given. He was being stabilized as I think his shoulder/clavicle may have been broken. He was stable when they transferred him to the ambulance I stayed there for a while just to help direct traffic. Be safe everyone.

It's a beautiful day to ride! Toyons 2 and 3 are still closed, but we'll still get a good ride in. See you out there. Let's ride!

I'm recovering from a bad flu and pneumonia. I'm going to make this ride but it's going to be sloooow. :-)

I am interested in bringing my 8 year old son. What is the policy on bringing guests/family?

    February 11, 2014

    • Michelle

I'm sorry, Nate. As it states above, "all riders need to be members of Meetup.com & South Bay Mountain Bike Group. Guests are no longer allowed. All riders need to RSVP as a member." And since people must be 18 to join Meetup, kids are not allowed on the rides.
