Camp Tamarancho is a 9+ mile singletrack on private property outside Fairfax, built by the Bicycle Trails Council of Marin. It is a 2 mile road ride to the trail head because there is no closer parking. You must have a pass (annual or day) to ride this property.
This is one of the few legal singletrack riding options available in Marin, and possibly the best one. Given the usual aversion of Marin County to mountain bikes on singletrack trails, a trail sign you'll see at Tamarancho that reads "bikes must stay on singletrack" sums up the uniqueness of this place pretty well.
Camp Tamarancho boy scout camp features a single 9-mile loop that's open to mountain bikes, and it's almost all singletrack. This makes up about 70% of this ride. The remaining portion is an approach/return ride on paved roads from downtown Fairfax, because there's no closer parking.
Riding in Camp Tamarancho requires a one-day permit that costs $5 (as of this writing). Alternatively, you can buy an annual permit. You can purchase both types of permits online, here: Boy Scouts of America
If you happen to forget to purchase one online, permits could also be purchased from Sunshine Bicycles or Fairfax Cyclery on the day of your ride. Sunshine Bicycles is in downtown Fairfax.
Tires roll at 10:20 or sooner if all YES RSVP's are present. Please be there by the meet time, we don't want to leave without you, but will!
Distance: 14-16 miles because I plan to do the Flow trail a couple times
Elevation: [masked]ft. give or take
Because of the pace and some technical sections: Not recommended for beginners, Intermediate and up riders only please.
Remember, all riders need to be members of Meetup.com & South Bay Mountain Bike Group. Guest are no longer allowed. All riders need to RSVP as a member.
