Lets Ride!

This is another ride that you should not miss and is very limited. I am going to give priority seating to our regular members that didn't make the last shuttle ride. Sign up early as everyone will be added to the wait list. As the time gets close some members will drop out and a spot will open.

This will be an intermediate & above level group ride.

We will meet at Epicenter Cycling in Aptos at 11:00 AM and take the Shuttle Smith Adventures bus to the top of of Demo. We will start from there and ride Demo. When finished at Demo it is 15 miles of descent through the redwoods in the Forest of Nisene Marks . This will bring us back to Aptos Village just south of the city of Santa Cruz to end at Epicenter Cycling.

There is a $20 fee per head, limit is 13. Lets fill this ride. If you RSVP Yes and change your RSVP after July 1st, you will still be required to pay your $20 fee. You will also be required to pay the after-ride bar tab.

As organizer, I will reserve the right to change your RSVP should I feel you're not ready for this ride/location.

Bus Tires roll at 11:30 AM or sooner if all YES RSVP's are present. Please be there by the meet time to load the bikes, the bus will leave without you!

Remember, all riders need to be members of Meetup.com & South Bay Mountain Bike Group. Guest are no longer allowed. All riders need to RSVP as a member.

Distance: 29 total miles? 15 miles is downhill at the end. Riding time: 4.5 - 6 hours?  http://www.thatsmypark.org/cp-parks-beaches/the-forest-of-nisene-marks-state-park/

Difficulty rating: Difficult , steady climbs, technically advanced singletrack with plenty of obstacles.

Trail surface: 53 percent dirt road, 34 percent singletrack, and 13 percent paved road.

Terrain: Smooth dirt road through mixed woodlands to the ridge, cool view, singletrack along ragged ridge, steep desent through lush redwoods.

The climbs are moderate but long. The descents are generally considered intermediate/advanced. However as long as you work those brakes you'll be safe.

Bring plenty of water, as well as food, because there is none in the park.

Directions:
Take 17 South toward Santa Cruz and then south on Highway 1.

Exit at the State Park Drive exit from Highway 1.

Turn left on State Park Drive at the traffic light.

Turn right on Soquel Drive. Go 1 mile to Aptos Creek Road.

Turn left on Aptos Creek Road (Aptos Station).

There is parking next to Epicenter Cycling in the dirt parking area on the right.

If your not sure where you are going or think you will be late, please leave earlier. It is not fair to have everyone else wait while you get ready to ride. Bring 2 spare tubes and master link? There is a restroom on site.

***Please remember, a helmet is required for all our rides.***

Just an awesome day with some of the best members in South Bay Mountain Bike Group. It was fun to plan three different ride groups and two different shuttle rides to meet up. Group 1 & 2 rode Demo together, then group 1 & 3 rode Nisene Marks together. The timing was perfect for the groups to meet and do this. My mileage came out at 29.07 back in Aptos. It was a long day, glad it was on Saturday. Until next time... Let's Ride!

This was an awesome ride, one of the best trails I've ever ridden, a great group of riders made it even better. Thanks for organizing everything Ray & Michelle!

Here is my GoPro footage. The camera angle isn't ideal since I forgot the larger J mount. It also includes footage of my crashed. Thank you to the two members that help pulled my bike out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSPR3zMdI50&feature=plcp

Oops. "How do I get off the wait list"

  • KAo

Ray, how don't get off the wait list? Just in case someone falls off the list. I recently acquired poison oak and won't be riding for a couple weeks.

One more thing, shuttle driver only takes cash. There will be a gathering after for food & drink! Ok, looks like we have our group of 13 for the shuttle. Remember to leave early as there may be beach traffic heading over 17. I would recommend to leave 1.5 hours before. Let's Ride!

@Els, yes this will be the same ride we did last year with the shuttle. Everyone should watch for other options to this ride to be posted soon!
