Let's Ride!

Tires roll at 11:26 AM or sooner if all YES RSVP's are present.

I plan to do 12-18 miles. There will be many ways for those that want to do less.

Boggs Mountain Demonstration State Forest is a state forest located on State Route 175, eight miles (13 km) south of Clear Lake in Lake County, California, USA. It is one of the largest mountains in the area, with a length of 10 miles (16 km) east to west and width of 4 miles (6 km) north to south. The mountain's highest point is 3,750 feet (1,143 m) elevation. Like nearby mountains such as Cobb Mountain, Boggs is volcanic in origin. It receives heavy rainfall, winter snow and has at least two perennial springs. Boggs Mountain State Forest is managed by the California Department of Forestry (CDF).

If your not sure where you are going or think you will be late, please leave earlier. It is not fair to have everyone else wait while you get ready to ride. Bring a spare tube and master link?

Ray found us quite a gem. Beautiful heavy forest with tons of amazing single track. Camping was amazing and the weather was great. Will return!

Thanks Ray for putting Boggs on our list. Loved this ride! It was a bit challenge for me, rocks and drop-offs. I skipped the last part of the ride and took short cut. I would love to return to Boggs and conquer trails I skipped this time.
Thanks to ALL for the encouragement and support!

This was a great to introduction to Boggs which has a lot of features that remind me of parts of other venues we ride. Quite a few flowing sections and a few techincal obstacles just as we got started. This time of year the pine needles were out in force!

You guys in the front were so nice to leave skid marks in the pine needles so those of us in the back knew when to slow down. ;-)

Ray, I found this definition of a Leader and it made me think of you:

A Leader has followers. A Leader has a relationship with them. A Leader guides and goes with them to places they've never been before.

I don't think we say it enough, so I'll say it collectively for the group: Ray, you're a great Leader! Thank you for taking us to places we've never been before. Thank you for guiding us and encouraging us through miles and miles of densely wooded trails. Thank you for fixing our broken helmets and flat tires. Thank you for being a great leader!!!

The pine needles were indeed out in force! One of the locals summed it up nicely when he said “welcome to the magic carpet ride”.

It's always an interesting venture when deciding to attend a ride when nobody knows the trail system but for me, that's what I love about mtbing. Exploring a trail for the first time and the challenge that comes from discovering what's the best line. Boggs has miles of trails and we just scratched the surface of what seamed like a spiderweb of a trail network that without a map could easily get you lost. The route we took was a lot of singletrak but I wouldn't say it was beyond a lot of the groups skill level all though we did have a few climbs that required some hike a bike. (Seeing some locals going the opposite direction makes you wonder?) The pine needles and foliage all over the trails was an adventure to ride through, just ask Joe Sousa and watching Els try to master the rock thingy was.....well let's just say, we were thinking he's going to eat it! We had lot's re-groups and a strange tire blow out but Ray did his best to keep things moving all while not feeling his best.

I ran out of room, I enjoyed the ride and the company. Look forward to coming back and exploring more of the trails.

Sorry I misspelled your last name Joe.

This is a new place for me and the terrain was good. Looked a little dissapointing in the beginning but it got alot better. I liked some of the technical challenges thrown at us. I couldn't have asked for a better day especially with great people. I've got a chance to meet a lot more new faces this time. I would definitely like to come back again this summer hopefully with the group or myself. Thanks Ray for leading a great ride again and the group for supporting each other.

Loved this ride!! It was a challenge for me both physically (my legs had more energy on the climbs than my lungs could provide oxygen for!!) and mentally (those bloody rocks and drop-offs!!). I would LOVE to return to Boggs and attempt to conquer the features which, on this weekend, got the best of me. Also to retrieve the skin that I left behind on the boulder that attacked me on a blind turn!! Thanks for putting this ride together, Ray. And thanks to ALL for the encouragement, laughter and support. This is an awesome group of riders. See ya' soon.

Great ride! The climbs were moderate and the downhill was fast and flowing. I really enjoyed the pine forest, not something you see on the Peninsula. Also a great location for a weekend getaway!

This was another great place to ride, reminds me of the trails in Bend. Wish I was feeling better though, will have to go back again and have a redo.

What an amazing ride and day. It's always a challenge to ride a totally new place, but this place has some serious flow and it was a blast!! Thanks Ray for keeping us all together. You did a great job even though you weren't your usual 100%.
