Let's Ride!

We will meet at Epicenter Cycling in Aptos at 9:00 AM. Tires roll promptly at 9:15 AM.

We will start from there and ride the fireroad up to Sand Point, near

the top of The Forest of Nisene Marks and back down. 18 miles round trip. This will bring us back to Aptos Village south of the city of Santa Cruz to end at Epicenter Cycling Aptos.

I plan to use this as a nice workout ride with minimal stops, and will need to be finished no later than 12 noon. If that means I have to turn around early, I will, but others can keep going. The view of the bay from 1600' is awesome!

Bring warm layers - it will be cold in the forest, and you will want wind protection for the downhill.

Remember, all riders need to be members of & South Bay Mountain Bike Group. Guests are no longer allowed. All riders need to RSVP as a member.

Difficulty rating: Moderate, steady climbs, nontechnical.

Trail surface: well-graded dirt fire road.

Terrain: Shaded second-growth redwood forest through mixed woodlands to the ridge, good views of Monterey Bay.

The climbs are moderate but long. The descents are generally considered intermediate. However as long as you work those brakes you'll be safe.

Bring plenty of water, as well as food, because there is none in the park.

Rain will cancel. I will post a weather update by 7 AM if we need to cancel.

Take 17 South toward Santa Cruz and then south on Highway 1.

Exit at the State Park Drive exit from Highway 1.

Turn left on State Park Drive at the traffic light.

Turn right on Soquel Drive. Go 1 mile to Aptos Creek Road.

Turn left on Aptos Creek Road (Aptos Station).

There is parking next to Epicenter Cycling in the dirt parking area on the right.

If your not sure where you are going or think you will be late, please leave earlier. It is not fair to have everyone else wait while you get ready to ride. Bring a spare tube and master link? There is a restroom on site.

***Please remember, a helmet is required for all our rides.***

This is a Great Beginner Ride with gradual to some steep climbing. The Decent was a blast with lots of little bumps to give the beginner enough momentum and lift to fly....well for a few brief seconds at

Lots of riders, joggers and families out of the road...

Hey Steve might take you up on your offer. Ill be coming from Tracy area. I can meet by 8/815? I'm not sure how the climb is here but I'm a little slow and weak in the climbing depart but opposite on the technical and descent. I would hate to hold people up.

Hi everybody. Was looking forward to meeting you. As it turns out it will have to be the next time you do Nisene. I won't be able to be there at 9. Hope you get his message in time. Thanks and have fun in "my backyard".

@ Gabi. Please update your RSVP if you change your mind on any of our rides and can't attend. This helps the host keep track as these comments don't get printed on the attendance sheet. Thanks and hope to see you on a ride soon. :-)

@ James. I haven't been up there since the last rain, but from my experiences, there will still be wet areas and small puddles. Don't be surprised if there is mud on your bike or that fun stripe on your backside. :-D However, it's a smooth dirt/packed gravel fire road, so you won't be sloshing around.
