Full Moon @ Fremont Older

  • Jan 26, 2013 · 2:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Let's Ride!

An optional gathering at a nearby pizza place for rehydration & food will follow after the ride.

This will be our full moon ride as we watch it rise while riding at the top of Fremont Older. We will then ride out before sunset at 5:26 PM and it gets too dark.

This is not a night ride as the park closes a half hour after sunset. Lights will not be needed for this ride.

Meet at the Fremont Older Preserve parking lot on Prospect Road in Cupertino by the information sign. Arrive early as the parking lot does fill up This will be about a 60- 90 minute/5-7 mile ride. Hope everyone will join me for a fun ride. Bring water and be sure your bike is ready to ride.

Tires roll at 2:46 PM or sooner if all YES RSVP's are present.
This is a great place for a good workout.

Ride Details
Difficulty as noted in my Mtn Biking guide book is: "Easy to moderate, with smooth wide trails for beginners and a few short single-tracks. On my scale of 1-5, 1 being easy - this may be a 2-3.

Remember, all riders need to be members of Meetup.com & South Bay Mountain Bike Group. Guest are no longer allowed. All riders need to RSVP as a member.

Directions:
Exit Highway 85 at De Anza Boulevard. (From northbound Hwy. 85 turn left on De Anza Blvd. and from southbound Hwy. 85 turn right on De Anza Blvd.) Travel west on De Anza Blvd. (toward the mountains) for about 0.5 miles. Turn right on Prospect Rd. Then at the first stop sign, turn left and cross the railroad tracks to remain on Prospect Rd. Follow Prospect Road uphill for 1.3 miles, turning left after the Saratoga Country Club, until you reach the preserve parking lot.

Rain will cancel. I will post an update here by 12 PM the day of the ride.

***Please remember, a helmet is required for all our rides***

Fun ride with a good group! No moon until the blue moon beer and the big pizza pie at Jake's, but that's cool. ;-)

So, does anyone read the ride listing above? "This is not a night ride as the park closes a half hour after sunset. Lights will not be needed for this ride." Just asking? Let's Ride!

    January 26, 2013

  • KAo

Ray. So no lights are needed right?

The parking lot is small, arrive early for a spot, carpool if you can, park down at the bottom of the hill and ride up, or park on the side of the road before the parking lot. I will wait until tomorrow to make the call and see what the weather does tonight. Just remember tires will roll on time. If your late, come find us.

I have room for one person to carpool with from south San Jose 85&Camden or Almaden Expressway.

Won't the parking lot be full with this many riders and other park users? I think that some will need to park down the road and ride to the parking lot.

Hello Shadi, If you are riding single track I highly recommend that you ride with wider tires such as 2". The hybrids can only get to 50mm (1.9"). This size tire would work off road on a dirt path that is fairly smooth....

If I make it to the riding list I can help set you up with a Mountain Bike if you like.

Please update your RSVP if needed before Friday. A no show for this ride may prevent someone on the waiting list the chance to enjoy the ride, and you from being able to attend your next one.

Not sure what bike is "hybrid bike" but I am sure you would like a wider tire than the street bikes. I suggest you to bring your bike to your local bike shop and let them know what park that you are going and the professional bike technician will give you a very good suggestion with your bike clinic, etc.

Hello Guys, this is the first time I am attending your events. Is a mountain bike needed for this ride? I have a hybrid bike and I ride on trails, but not on mountain. My bike is not a mountain bike.. Is that fine?
    Thank you
