Sea Otter Classic - April 18-21, 2013 - Monterey, California, USA (Powered by SRAM)

The Sea Otter Classic is "A Celebration of Cycling"!   It’s a festival for anybody who enjoys or appreciates the bicycle, for any reason.

That even includes a tot on a trike who’s only looking forward to a bike!  This is a festival for tweens, teens, and twenty-somethings.  It’s for Gen-Xers and Boomers and the Greatest Generation.

Whether a cyclist or a spectator, folks of all ages can share in the excitement and camaraderie of the Sea Otter Classic.  If you love the idea of being part of a cool scene with active people who all share a passion for bicycles—people who are all a part of the cycling community—come!

Sea Otter is for road and mountain bikers.  It’s for recreational cyclists, and, you bet:  the Sea Otter Classic definitely draws the very best racers—both amateurs and pros!

Our fearless leader, Ray, took 14th overall (out of over 300!) in the Gran Fondo and took third in the over (a certain) age group, missing out on second place by only a few seconds!!!!!!!! First place in the age group was the famous Ned Overend.

That is a great effort Ray! It was pretty hot out there which made your feat all the harder.

Way to go Ray!! Though it doesn't surprise me after chasing him around over hills the last few years.

So impressed by the tenacity of the four SBMBG riders I saw out on the Gran Fondo course! It was hot and long and hilly, but I was helped along by seeing Stephanie, Kelly and Vincent now and then, and by Amber's unflagging high spirits. Amber, you could be the new face for Jelly Belly!

Nancy, Thank you for the support and encouragement yesterday! I loved every minute of the hot and hilly course. Thanks to Andy, Vincent, Kelly & Stephanie for making the MTB Grand Fondo look easy! A BIG thanks to all of the volunteers who generously gave their time to make this amazing event possible (and thanks to Jelly Belly for making the most delightful jelly beans I’ve ever tasted).

The Gran Fondo starts at the Sea Otter Classic bridge and finishes near the Athlete Registration building (also known as Trackview Pavilion/Red Bull Energy Center).
    •Mountain Bike Route starts at 10:00 a.m.

If anyone wants to meetup before the start, the registration building is a is a good spot to gather and then head over to the start. Let's Ride!

    Hi,
I will probably drive on Sunday morning just for the Gran Fondo ride then spend the day in the festival. The start is from 10am, is there a plan for starting in group?
I don’t know if we will have a chance to make the 20 miles all together but maybe we can start in the same time?

For any ladies that don't want the torture (or expense) of the 20 mile MTB Gran Fondo, you can ride with pro riders Rebecca Rusch and Lindsey Voreis on Sunday from 10-noon. All levels, no-drop. Meet at the SRAM booth. https://twitter.com/LindseyVorei...

Folks that will be staying over night during the weekend, is anyone camping out a night or two? If so, let's talk. I'm open to the idea and may want to collaborate on a few ideas.

    Hi Jim,
Myself and another SBMO Meet-Upper are wanting to camp out Saturday night. There seems to be a 3 night minimum at the Laguna Seca camp sites. I'd like to brainstorm some ideas with you. I looked into Veteran's Memorial, but it is first come first serve. Ping me with a time to chat.
