This is always a fun ride.
This ride was on the schedule in November & December but had a rain out.
Our new meeting location is inside the park at the parking/campground/restroom area. Drive into the park off of North San Pedro Road past the ranger booth and follow the paved road to the end. This is also the area where we end each loop. Note: There is now a fee to park of $5 which also includes your required trail use pass.
I am going to plan on doing two loops, however other riders are more than welcome to do only one. The ride is starting later this time, so you may have more traffic heading north and should plan to leave earlier.
Level 2 Ride Rating.
This is taken from my mountain bike guide; China Camp is a wonderful singletrack ride, especially if you're at a time when you're a little out of shape or if you have beginner riders with you. It's the best beginner singletrack ride in the Bay Area. Any other beginner options are either more fire road than singletrack, or have at least a few punishing steep sections in the mix.
Parking Pass & Trail Use Pass, check the website under Fees & Passes Tab.
Parking Along San Pedro Road
Cars are allowed to park at the side of San Pedro Road; no parking fees are charged as San Pedro Road is a Marin County road. Park users who park along the road but use the trails are required to pay day use trail fees.
This China Camp route is almost completely singletrack and requires almost no advanced climbing stamina or technical skills. While there are a number of technical spots along this ride that would pose difficulty to beginners (and be welcome fun for experienced riders), almost all of them are constrained to the first quarter of the ride, and then things get even easier.
From highway 101 north in San Rafael, take the North San Pedro exit east toward the Civic Center. Stay on North San Pedro Road to the park entrance at about 3 miles. There is parking along the road at the entrance to Black Ranch Meadows.
There are restrooms at the campground and water at the trailhead. Arrive early so we can start on time.. You can also park in the paid self parking area. Bring water and be sure your bike is ready to ride.
Tires roll at 11:16 AM or sooner if all YES RSVP's are present. Please be there by the meet time, we don't want to leave without you!
Difficulty as noted in my Mtn Biking guide book is: Moderate, mostly wide and nontechnical single-track trails for beginners. I hear from other riders this is a great place for a good fun ride.
Ray's Ride Rating: On my scale of 1 -5, 1 being easy - this may be a Level 2 Ride.
Remember, all riders need to be members of Meetup.com & South Bay Mountain Bike Group. Guest are no longer allowed. All riders need to RSVP as a member.
Rain will cancel. Check this listing the morning of the ride. I will post by 7 AM a weather update if we need to cancel.
***Please remember, a helmet is required for all our rides.***
