Uvas Canyon - Waterfall Loop

UPDATE- We have a date!!!!

So the some rain has come and according to yahoo weather it may be patch and cloudy for this Sunday, so I say lets do it.

Park Opens at 8:am

Never been here before, Rob mentioned it at the last meet up so I'd like to check it out.

The 1-mile, fairly flat Waterfall Loop Trail can be extended to 5 or 7 strenuous miles by adding a circuit on the Alec Canyon and Contour trails.

Getting there: From Highway 101 in San Jose exit at Bernal Road and turn left on Santa Teresa Boulevard. Travel south 3 miles and turn right onto Bailey Avenue. Follow Bailey Road 2.3 miles to McKean Road. Turn left onto McKean Road (McKean Road becomes Uvas Road 2.2 miles south of Bailey Road). From Bailey Road travel 6 miles south on McKean/Uvas Road and turn right onto Croy Road. Continue 4.4 miles on Croy Road, through Sveadal, to reach the Park entrance. Sveadal is a private resort belonging to the Swedish American Patriotic League. Please respect their privacy and drive slowly as you pass through.

I'll be coming from Pleasanton, I680 to 101. I can pick up some riders along the way.

I live right by 101 and Lawrence. Do you still have availability in your car for carpooling? You could get out of 101, pick me up and be back on 101 in 4 minutes.

Sorry, the site was down whenever I logged in and hence could reach out to you only now.

      Thanks,

Great location we decided to go hiking instead of getting camera gear wet. I hope you do this one again.

A great location when the water is running. Unfortunately it was running a bit too much during the meetup. I'm looking forward to a return visit.

Great location but lousy weather for photography. I'm spending the afternoon drying out :>) Erick, what about another try in the next couple of weeks?

Absolutely, this is a great location. I could spend all day here. Well almost did, even with the rain. I'll reschedule for next week.

Lovely place!! Great people!! Unfortunately it was very wet today. Anyone want to go back with me Wednesday morning if the weather is dry?

Got here a few minutes ago, but it's raining quite a bit now. Not comfortable taking the gear out in this weather. We are heading back. Maybe next time.

Just a recommendation. Things to bring, camera, cable release, (if you have one) tripod, circular polarizer (if you have one) & plastic bags (to cover your camera). Wide angle lenses or all in ones lenses work great.

    Eric,
Just talked with my buddy, a park ranger assigned to the park. They are enforcing parking. So please pay for you parking permit and place it on the vehicle's window. In addition the water is flowing pretty hard. If I can get my lazy butt up, I drop by.

A Date has been selected... Sunday... Yea!

Heads-up for scheduling: Avoid April 12 because there is a huge bike event on the roads in that area. Avoid April 19-20 and May 18 because of big triathlons in the area around the reservoir.

Agree about the rain comments. I've been here when the waterfalls are falling and when they are just dry rock. Former is much better than the latter.

Also, in January, if lucky, you can run into colonies of Ladybugs on the side of the trail.

    Hey gang,
We should pick a date after a rain showers. This way we will have decent waterfalls. Let me know if anyone needs a list of equipment to bring.

This place is best after the rains start. I started going last year around the 1st of Nov. with fall colors being still really good. December was better for the water volume, but the color was gone from the fallen leaves. I'll go if you wait till then. A park ranger did say that there was water year round, but on my 1st visit last year in Nov, there was very little water. Stays in the shade most all day especially more so in winter months with the lower angle of the sun. ND filters help get that silky look, but you won't need much especially if it is an overcast day. I have a pair of waders I can't wait to use for getting in the creek (Swanson's Creek).
The park opens at 8 AM and is self registration. I believe it's about $6 per car. If you must go before the rains, I hope there's enough water for you. If you wait till after the 1st good rain, I'll go.
