Uvas Canyon - Waterfall Loop

Great place for photography.!!!!

Park Opens at 8:am (Be sure to pay for parking, as they do check it). Cell communication is spotty in the area.

We tried this place this past weekend the weather didn't cooperate so lets do it again. (Cell phone reception is spotty at best)

The 1-mile, fairly flat Waterfall Loop Trail can be extended to 5 or 7 strenuous miles by adding a circuit on the Alec Canyon and Contour trails.

Getting there: From Highway 101 in San Jose exit at Bernal Road and turn left on Santa Teresa Boulevard. Travel south 3 miles and turn right onto Bailey Avenue. Follow Bailey Road 2.3 miles to McKean Road. Turn left onto McKean Road (McKean Road becomes Uvas Road 2.2 miles south of Bailey Road). From Bailey Road travel 6 miles south on McKean/Uvas Road and turn right onto Croy Road. Continue 4.4 miles on Croy Road, through Sveadal, to reach the Park entrance. Sveadal is a private resort belonging to the Swedish American Patriotic League. Please respect their privacy and drive slowly as you pass through.

What to bring:

Tripod
ND Filters
circular polarizer
Lens cloth, (few if you can)

Carpool is recommended as parking can be limited.

Thanks to all who made it out, once again, always a pleasure meeting new faces as well as seeing familiar ones. It's always great to shoot with folks that enjoy photography as much as I do. I'll see you at a future meetup. I'm loving what you have uploaded, very creative

I had a great learning experience today thanks to Erick, Steve Shpall and Mat. I accomplished what I had come for - shot silky water fall without ND filters.

Just an FYI, I didn't realize that another a much larger meetup group will be there as well. They are set to meet there at 10:30am. So parking may be a challenge (carpool is highly recommended). Also bring a change of cloth if you plan to get in the water or water shoes, cable release.

Looks like there were at least 4 meetups there today! Almaden Hiking, over 45, wilderness photography, and us.

Nice easy walk with many many waterfalls big and small

How long and strenuous is the planned hike? I understand the first 1 mile is flat and easy, and the other options are not so easy.

Sure, i walked end to end on the major part of the trail in 30mins. Of course that's not taking photos. Probably another 5-10 for the lower falls

I didn't get to the lower falls, missed it by a hundred yards or so. I started late, got to the parking lot at 8:45. Said hello to Patty and Susan from the Almaden hiking meetup and wandered over to the water I was hearing. Took me 4 hours to make it to the Upper falls. Used my cellphone for macro shots of the ladybugs. I thoroughly enjoyed the day!

So sorry I won't make it this time. Know there'll be lots of great photos. My spot is available to whoever is waiting for an opening.

Anyone wants to carpool from Sunnyvale?

    March 4, 2014

    • Lili

I am actually looking for a ride

I'm in south San Jose. If I am feeling well enough to still go tomorrow (yay morning sickness...) I can drive. You can email me if you haven't already found transportation there. [masked]. I'll check first thing in the morning. Directions say it'll take a little under 40min from my place.

Showed up last Sat and headed back home due to rain. For tomorrow, everything packed, charged, memory cards cleared and ready to go.... but just got called into work. Maybe the third time would be the charm. Hope you all have fun shooting. If anyone was waiting for the spot to open up, please take mine and my guest's.

Hi Erick, is there a common point in space-time that people are meeting before starting the hike? I don't have a walkie-talkie.

    March 7, 2014

    • Erick C.

Ideally we will meet at the parking lot by 8am, do a brief intro, if you choose you can pair up someone. This is the opportunity to pick the brain of the more seasoned photographers from the group on how we can go home with a nice shot at the end of the meetup. If you can't get their in time, I'm sure will run into you along the trail. Look for a bald guy with orange shoes.

Since Saturday is closed I'm going Sunday morning. Anyone interested?

Rsvps are closed? Is there no more room for others to come?

    March 6, 2014

  • Annette T.

I hate to cancel but something came up for this saturday and I need to cancel.

Thanks to Matt P, we now have a map of the trail.

How are the parking fees paid/collected: coin, bills, or CC?

    March 3, 2014

    • Erick C.

Self Paid machine, for what ever reason it wasn't taking dollar bills, CC worked after a few tries.

      March 3, 2014

    • rich_r

I gave it a $5 and a $1 and it worked fine, but someone in front of me had a problem with a CC?

would love to go another time.. going to be a busy weekend as I leave for Ireland on Thursday the 13th.. let's do this again so next time I can go.

    March 3, 2014

  • Kathleen B.

I have another commitment and won't be able to make this Saturday. Hopefully you'll do Uvas Canyon Park again.

Bummer. I'm going to be out of town. The weather forecast looks much better. I'd don't think you'll need your rain suit -- like on Sunday.
