Ice Hockey, Slough Jets v Swindon Wildcats

Ice hockey is a fast moving, hard, contact sport with a touch of Americana thrown in. An ice hockey match consists of 3, 20 minute periods with 2 intervals of 15 minutes. Unlike football or many other sports there is no such thing as a draw, as overtime gets played until a goal is scored. At the start, the fast pace of the game takes some getting used to as the puck flies around the ice at around 20mph. Unlike our football, there is no biting, scratching or feigning of injury. Instead there's plenty of body contact, which you'll see as players get shoulder charged into the clear perspex and quite often 2 players will take off their helmets and have a punch up, to the delight of the crowd. So as you may gather, its not a sport for the squeamish. Refreshments at the venue are American in origin hence coffee, buddwiesers, hot dogs etc. At the time of this meetup, we haven't decided on a meal venue but one may be put up to follow this meetup. Admission is around £11, though I may go for a discount option, if take up is good prior to the event. My mobile number is 07525537973. Hope you can make it. Stu.

What a great evening, for starters we had a great mix of people, secondly I was able to collar the guy, who does group bookings, which got us in for a tenner each. The game was exciting and the teams well matched, with a few minutes to go, with the score at 3 each, the Swindon goalminder made a brilliant stop and his team swept up the other end to score the decisive goal. Wished I could have stayed around to say my goodbyes, but I was carless and Justine was giving me a lift home. Thanks again Gerry, for the lift to the hanger.

It is really a good night especially if you love fast competitive sports and you can't get much faster and competitive than ice hockey

Hi wasn't able to get hold of the organiser for group bookings. Looking at the website, the entrance fee is £11.50. We'll meet up by the front entrance and pay on the door as usual.

Hi Gerry, hi Imelda, first of all I have been given an email address for discounted tickets, so I'll give that a go and see how it goes. In the past its been pay on the door but as soon as I know I'll email attendees. Throughout my time in meetup, I've done a minimum of 1 ice hockey meetup a year. I'm also on the organising team for sports socialising and hope to organise a meetup when Bracknell Bees host the Jets.

Sorry Stu - have guests arriving from Portugal for a long weekend so unable to attend. Shame, I was really looking forward to this as I've never seen it before - maybe you can put another one up at some point? Hope you have a fun. Imelda x
