  • I have wanted to do this since I heard about this run. This run is an out-and-back, is on trails, and crosses the continental divide. Figure on carrying at least 70 ounces of fluid, extra clothes, and food. This is an advanced level trail run with lots of climbing and descending, high altitude, and uncertain weather. The trade-off is amazing scenery. The plan is to run to Grand Lake, refuel and refill fluids and head back to Bear Lake. Alternately, if folks want to arrange a shuttle, this could be done as an approximate 17-mile point-to-point. There is a fee to enter Rocky Mountain National Park, and a back-country permit is required. I would like to carpool from somewhere in the Centennial area, and it will take about 2-1/2 hours to get there.

    Hi David!

Got your email - I will be working an event this Saturday anyways, so by all means run at the Indian Creek Loop!

Hope training is going well and looking forward to having you join a run again!

I did this run this past weekend, and have some additional details. The run to Grand Lake is 20 miles with about 3,000 feet of climb and 5,000 of decent. The run back to Bear Lake via the Inlet Trail, is 18 miles with about 5,000 feet of climb and 3,000 feet of decent. This could be done as an approximate 20-mile or 18-mile point-to-point. There is a fee to enter Rocky Mountain National Park with a car.The 20-mile run over is around 5 hours, and the 18 mile return takes about 6 hours. The payback is being in one of the most spectacular places to run. I have posted preview pictures to photos.

I may be doing a trial run next Tuesday and will try to remember to take and post pictures.
