End of Bear Lake Road off of Highway 36, Estes Park, CO
I have wanted to do this since I heard about this run. This run is an out-and-back, is on trails, and crosses the continental divide. Figure on carrying at least 70 ounces of fluid, extra clothes, and food. This is an advanced level trail run with lots of climbing and descending, high altitude, and uncertain weather. The trade-off is amazing scenery. The plan is to run to Grand Lake, refuel and refill fluids and head back to Bear Lake. Alternately, if folks want to arrange a shuttle, this could be done as an approximate 17-mile point-to-point. There is a fee to enter Rocky Mountain National Park, and a back-country permit is required. I would like to carpool from somewhere in the Centennial area, and it will take about 2-1/2 hours to get there.
