Apple and Grape Festival - Stanthorpe - 2014

This event is held every two years in Stanthorpe and members attended the 2012 event. Check out the website at http://www.appleandgrape.org/index.htm I recommend you book as soon as possible as thousands will be attending. The best place to camp is Top of the Town Caravan Park in Stanthorpe, walking distance to the festival, but book early. The first booking can start the ball rolling.

Hi, have only just joined and very interested in joining the group this weekend for the apple and grape festival, do I need to book directly with the caravan park or do you already have sites booked ?

    March 5

  • Ken & M.

Hello to all. We have just joined the group and already had a site booked at Top of the Town. We look forward to maybe catching up at some stage over the weekend. Cheers Ken & Maree

    • Ken D.

Hi Ken and Maree. Just let people from SEQ Campers know what site you are camping on so they can introduce themselves. Some have already advised camping site numbers in this conversation. Also check the website, http://appleandgrape.... so you can see what entertainment best suits you. Don't forget there's also plenty of wine to taste at the festival too! All the best and have fun!

      March 5

  • Carole H.

Hi Ken, Just wanted to know where we are going to meet up in the evenings. I had to move sites so i am on the other side of the park now. Just keep me up to date. Thanks

    March 4

    • Ken D.

Hi Carole. You will note from the conversation that people are scattered but gave put their site numbers down such as 1-15 and 1-19 where Sandy Dee and Joanne Blake will be. When you arrive just check with them and let them know you are with SEQ Campers. I hope you have a good time as entertainment goes all day. Check the website http://appleandgrape.... for what's on. Unfortunately I will not be there this time - I have been to the last two festivals and had a ball each time!

  • Linda P.

So now that we have booked our camp sites at Top of the Town caravan park, will we be meeting up with any of the members? if so, how do we go about that?

    February 18

    • Ken D.

Let people know your site number. I was at the 2012 Festival and barely saw anybody because I was so engrossed in what the Festival had to offer. Usually got home late and went straight to sleep.

Hi - sorry had to cancel as we have to go overseas (unexpected) We are away several weeks but will certainly catch up when we return. Keep us on the member lists.

  • CP and I

Sorry - I meant to say - that it is not too far ahead to book BUT we can't book just now until we find out our work commitments. Our loss - NOT the club's fault! :)

    November 29

    • Ken D.

There has been some wilderness camping, I know that co-organiser Chris likes this! Some of the smaller towns do not have an RSL but they do have a pub. I'm hoping to sit down over Christmas New Year and plan for the year - from bush, some beach camping and festivals. Members can also schedule meetups. I hope to see you some time next year in some remote spot!

      November 30

    • Brij

And our next big scheduled camping trips in 2014 are at Carnarvon Gorge (5 days) & Ayers Rock, Kakadu National Park (4-5 weeks). Not for faint heart though. -:)

      November 30

  • Liliana G.

Yes I understand all the above & put out three requests last month to see if someone wanted ti share but unfortunately no response. I have now put it on the backburner & will concentrate on my trip to the Med! Tks for trying to help

    November 29

  • CP and I

Hi all - we cannot book this far in advance - as we need to make sure of commitments. Hi Lillian - sorry you had problems. I am not an organiser but we have been to a coupe of functions and we have friends in the group. We found the 2 functions we went amazingly well planned and the organisers went out of their way to make everything fun. Groups are the members - so we should all do our share I think. We have been abroad but we will try and help more next time. Remember - there are no membership fees and no-one gets paid to organise stuff. We have had great round the brazier forums and before we left (last July) the club was very pro active on the site. Maybe the organisers got sick of doing it all!
never mind - next year will be better - lets all help.

Managed to get a site last week, so there are still vacancies

    November 26

  • Liliana G.

I guess that explains why the caravan park couldnt find names. It seems that it is all too hard! No cohesion in this Meetup group! Such a shame!

    November 20

    • Liliana G.

Hi Brij thanks for your feedback! I belong to a number of Meetup groups including hiking, adventure etc. They are all run with the idea of ensuring the participants feel as if they belong to a group of people who ultimately have joined for the experience, meeting new people & sharing the uniqueness of that particular Meetup. It's unfortunate that the SE Campers are not run in the same way which I find disappointing. At the end of each meeting, whether it is a hike, a movie, learning to dance the experience is shared!

      November 21

    • Ken D.

I beg to disagree with your comments. People were told to book well in advance and, as we have lost bulk bookings before due to people not making their minds up for major events well in advance, none was made. Also this festival is generally booked out months ahead. However people have been encouraged to contact each other and meet at the festival if they wish. You can also see pictures of the 2012 festival on past meetups. It is much easier to meet together without booking worries at a quiet spot in the bush then during a major festival!

      November 21

  • Ken D.

As there has been no bulk booking for this event and members will be scattered, it would be appreciated if those staying at Top of the Town let other members know their site nos. I went to the last two Apple and GRape Festivals in 2010 and 2012 and as there was so much to do during the day and night I just did my own thing. I will not be going to this event, although as organiser I can assist prior to commencement.

  • Liliana G.

Hi Ken I have just spoken to the Top of the Caravan Park & when I gave them your name & that of David & Dennis they could not find your names & effectively the sites you are booked in. Could you please advise your site nos so I can be as close to you as possible? cheers Liliana

    November 20

    • David T.

I am not booked in there.

      November 20

    • Ken D.

I'm actually not going - I've been to the last two but due to so many events and entertainment everybody did their own thing. However I will ask members to let you know their site numbers. Others may also have booked at other sites or arranged to stay in nearby nattional parks.

      November 20

  • Ken D.

In 2010 I was breath tested leaving the festival and in 2012 I was booked for speeding as I got onto the highway to leave Stanthorpe. Top of the Town Caravan Park is a 15 minute walk from the festival in the Stanthorpe CBD and the nearest camping accommodation - but it fills up quick. A radar and breath test were both set up near the front of the caravan park in 2012 so be careful on the road at this festival.

Hi, we are loving in Warwick so will come to the festival for the first day and sleep at home.

    November 4

  • Ken D.

I've been to last two of these festivals in 2010 and 2012 and it is a festival where you can do your own thing. Only saw group members while I tasted wine, cider and beer; sampled food; watched live music and other entertainment; watched the street parade; watched the pizza eating competition; met and spoke to locals; etc etc. It is also the biggest regional festival on southern Queensland after the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers - where I will be this weekend. Great fun!
