O'Reilly's (Green Mountain section)

We are camping for 2 nights - Fri & Sat (8th & 9th Nov) but you can make your own plans as you like e.g. a day trip only.

This is a camping trip before the high summer starts in Lamington National Park at cool O'Reilly's rain forest. It is about 120 kms (about 2 hrs) drive from Brisbane CBD towards south. We can see some waterfalls, a botanic garden, do a treetop board walk and some other walks in the area, and/or relax, chat, bird watching etc.

See Google map here

How to reach: If you are starting from Brisbane then you can reach there via Jimboomba or Beenleigh. The road via Jimboomba is easier as you can bypass Mt Timborine uphill winding roads. Last 30km to O'Reilly's is uphill and winding road. Check below GPS location link for exact directions from your place.

GPS location: -28 13' 46",153 07' 58"

Note: last section of the road is not suitable for towing caravans or buses.

Camping location: At O'Reilly, at the end of Lamington National Park Road, the camping ground comes first on right-hand side or about 100m before the day-use visitor car park or the QPWS information centre.

Camp site map: Green Mountains camping area map

Area map: Green Mountains access map

Access: The camping area is accessible by conventional vehicle. But caravans and buses cannot be accommodated. Although most of the camping area is accessible by car, it may be necessary to park a short distance from some of the camp sites.

Number of sites: 20 well defined, numbered tent sites, 10 numbered campervan sites and 10 numbered Gold Coast Hinterland Great Walk tent sites. Maximum of 4 adults per tent site. One campervan per campervan site.

Camp sites are suitable for: walk-in camping and campervans. There are no powered sites. Campervan and tent sites are interspersed throughout the camping area. Sites are not suitable for caravans or camper-trailers as the campervan sites do not allow enough room for annexes to be erected or vehicles to be parked alongside.

Camp site surface: Hardened surface (mixture of compacted crusher dust and sand).

Facilities: Water (boil before using), composting toilets, hot showers and an industrial rubbish bin. The nearby resort has a public phone. There are no shelter sheds or barbecue facilities in the camping area. Mobile phone coverage is poor.

Open fires: Prohibited. Fuel or gas stoves recommended.

Essentials to bring: Drinking water, Fuel or gas stove if you are cooking, insect repellent, washing up basin, ground sheet to place under your tent to prevent wear, warm clothes and wet weather camping gear, snack/food for your stay, your medicine, first-aid kit, camera, torch, relaxing and happy attitude.

Bookings: you need to book early for your camping spot because campsite is popular with campers in summer. Ring[masked] to book a campsite or use below link for on-line booking (you need to register first if using first time):

https://parks.nprsr.qld.gov.au/my.policy

After registration & log-in, click on camping permit, then choose Lamington National Park, then choose Green Mountain Camping area tent sites (if you are camping with tent) and then choose the date. If possible book a site closer to #1 so we can have communal area close by. If you are coming by Campervans - select the 'Campervan site' (from #1 - #10). If the booking system shows the main camping area full - then choose 'Green Mountain Walkers Camp' option from the drop-down menu - which is physically next to it.

Walking Activities: We will do short walks on Friday to see lookouts, waterfalls and board-walk closer to campsite. Then on Sat/Sun we can do longer walks like Box Forest Circuit and/or Toolona Creek Circuit.

Brij .. can you remember to check out Site 14 for me please? Wanting to make sure we can access it with a camper trailer. Many thanks.

    November 9, 2013

    • Brij

Site 14 is a tent site and blocked by wooden stumps all around (all tent sites are the same way) and camper trailer can't go there. Also all tent sites are on elevation. Campervan site's size are orientation are different, best I found is #7 & #5 for the campervan. I can send you the photos if you let me know your email address. Hope this will help. Cheers.

Site number is on the camping tag, which can be get from the booking systme. But only Eugene can login and download from there. Rod, you can try ringing their number and see if they can provide you site number (but I doubt). Other option is to talk to ranger on the site, they are very helpful in these cases.

    Enjoy the weekend!!

FYI: I have emailed to all attendees with the trip details. If you haven't received it yet then check your junk folder because some time email from this system ends up there. Also there are about 75 members signed up from 4 meetup groups for this event though I haven't received confirmation from many if they are actually coming. But hopefully hopefully it will be well attended and enjoyable. Cheers

I have left a request with another group joining you all and will leave the same here. We have booked site #14 for a camper trailer for Christmas. Can someone kindly let me know what it is like? Many thanks. We have just arrived home from an O/S so weekend camp trips at the moment are scarce :( Have a great weekend out there though.

If you phone to register & obtain a permit ....be patient ...45 minutes on hold & still no booking.!! Plus iPads/ iPhones are not compatible to the Parks system. Handy if you have a landline. Best of luck to everyone who is attempting to get through to the website.

    September 9, 2013

  • Kay R.

Hi Brij, the site actually says not suitable for camper trailers or caravans.

    September 8, 2013

    • Brij

Hi Kay, as already mentioned in the event blurb above, sites are not suitable for caravans or camper-trailers, though motorized camper-van is good to go.

      September 8, 2013

  • Kay R.

Unfortunately this camp is unsuitable for vans - even small ones like mine.

    July 15, 2013

    • Brij

Hi Kay, is your van motorised or the towed one? I am going with 6m long motorised campervan which would fit there.

      July 15, 2013

    • Kay R.

      I tow.

      July 15, 2013

  • Dennis D.

I love O'Reillys. Bring along some bird seed. The birds at O'Reillys are absolutely stunning.
