Meet and Greet Barbecue - Oxenford

With more then 200 members its time we had a short get together and got to know each other. With members in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast I have chosen a central spot on Coomera River with barbecues and you can go kayaking/canoeing in Regatta Waters Lake in the park, although swimming is NOT permitted due to water quality. Bring your own food and drinks.

Hi Ken, not well today sorry wont be able to make it. Need to stay out of this heat. Look forward to lots of camping this year.

    January 12, 2013

    • Ken D.

Thanks Annie. All those who turned up had a good time and I've picked up some ideas for the year. Don't blame you about the heat but there was a cool breeze off the water but when it stopped - you could feel it! Look forward to seeing you on a trip or two sometime during the year!

      January 12, 2013

  • Ken D.

Thank you to all who came even in this heat. Thanks to Claire, Brij and Chris and the others who provided gazebos. I hope you all made it home safely and I look forward to seeing many of you through the year. I will send an email out in the next few days going into more detail on planned trips. In the meantime, stay cool!

Hi Ken - I have not been well recently and am really going down in this heat. Really sorry about the short notice but I don't think it's a good idea for me to go tomorrow at this stage. I was looking forward to it. Have a good time everyone.

    January 11, 2013

    • Ken D.

Thanks Karen and Tracy. Yes it is hot, specially in the western suburbs of Brisbane where it will be close to 40 today. However it is cooler on the Coast and the park is next to the Coomera River and has its own small lake so I'm hoping for a cool breeze. Keep your eyes out for future events and I hope I catch you soon if you do not make it today.

Jessica - I will also be camping as a single so don't worry about being alone. I'll be in that boat with you ;-) it's all good.

As well as the tarp, I've just acquired the loan of a gazebo, you guessed it, a blue one. Seriously, it's going to be the day of the blue gazebo's. I'll also be bringing a decent esky if anyone needs some cool space.

    January 11, 2013

  • Chris

Due 2 the weather on the day, I'll b bringing my tarp and poles etc. It's 18 x 20 feet.

    January 10, 2013

  • Ken D.

At present the only shade we have is from 3 3x3m gazebos and a couple of trees. If anybody has a spare portable gazebo we would appreciate you bringing it. Don't forget food, drink and eating utensils, chairs and portable tables would be handy too. The meet and greet should only take 2-3 hours from 11am but the last one had people hanging around talking for some time to leave as they got to know each other and make new friends!

I checked out the park this morning. Being near water there was a cool breeze. There was plenty of parking and on the left as you turn into Watersport Lane thereis a large childrens play area and a public toilet. There's a twin BBQ near the lake on the other side of the play area but we will set up our blue gazebos under some trees near the parking area. For those who want alcohol there is a Dan Murphys and Oxenford Pub a minutes drive away. If you have any queries I can be called on 0424091920. I will be there at 10am and I expect we can have a lunch and talk over ideas before we all depart. Looking forward to meeting you all!

I have one spare seat to the venue. Anyone needing lift coming from Stretton/Calamvale side, send me PM and we will setup a suitable time/place. Cheers

The heatwave should hit Queensland this weekend with temps expected in the high 30s. I think its best if people come with cold food and salads - and its a good thing this site is near water so it will be cooler! We have three gazebos for cover so far and my girlfriend will bring a long table. Look forward to meeting you all and getting some ideas. If you are camping at Brooms Head in February don't for get to book. I have booked under my own name so ask to be close to DOUSHA. Hope the new year will continue to be good for you all!

With so many people coming I suggest you come prepared for a picnic rather than a BBQ, which I'm going to do. I will introduce myself to all armed with pencil and paper so I can get ideas and organise events this year. I already have some listed and watch Channel 7's Great South East on Sundays at 5.30pm to get more ideas.
I'm very grateful for regular campers who have and can advise and assist with places, and there are so many wonderful, beautiful places in SE Qld and northern NSW. New campers can also get tips! Just look out for the two 3m x 3m blue gazebos together, but I would appreciate if someone could bring more cover for 50 people as it may be hot or wet! People may also have to park up Watersports Rd too.
May you all enjoy the beach and bush in 2013.

Yes we thought a picnic would be good, that way there is more time to chat

      January 3, 2013

    • Brij

Ken, I will bring a 3m x 3m blue gazebo, that will make it 3 blues.

Hi, I'd also like to know if I can bring my little dog along. No probs if not, just wondered. Thanks.

    December 31, 2012

    • Ken D.

It would be just like any other park - ensure the dog is on a leash but you may release it depending on what the signage says. There is no mention of pets on website.

      December 31, 2012

    • Fiona

Thanks for that, I never let Shaggy off leash so that's not a prob. Appreciate prompt response.

Details on this park are at http://www.gcparks.com.au/park-details.aspx?park=1780. I suggest we break up into groups and I can walk around getting ideas. For those not wanting a BBQ just bring some food and drink and be prepared to make some new friends with camping in common! Happy New Year everybody!

Very excited to be meeting everyone will bring the motor home up for a run. We have a small moodle are dogs allowed?

Is this just a one day event ( ie not actually camping - just a picnic type thing???)

    December 27, 2012

    • Ken D.

Yes. It's a chance to meet fellow campers and get ideas where to camp during the year.

I have not done any camping before. I would love to learn the basics. Any advice??
    What do i need???

    November 13, 2012

    • Ken D.

The basics are just a tent and an airbed, with pump, and a sleeping bag. Then you need a portable table and chair, and for cooking the easiest thing is a gas cooker and gas canisters. With this of course you need eating and cooking utensils. Some people just bring prepacked food and drink with an ice cooler and do not worry about cooking. Check out http://reviews.ebay.c... for more detail on camping basics. All the basic stuff is available at any camping store, or even Kmart and Big W. Hope this is helpful.
