Tara Festival of Culture and Camel Races

Full details at: http://www.tarafestivalncamels.org.au/

This looks like a fun festival and a great event for families in the middle of the year far from the madding crowd. Camping is free at the showground for those attending. Cost to event is $20 for the weekend for a single adult or $40 for a family of 6.

Tara Futures Group present the 2013 Tara Festival of Culture and it's accompanying 2 days of quality camel racing. A 'Festival of the Orient' on the Friday night will feature entertainment including Lion Dancer and cuisine with an Oriental/Asian influenceand a monster fireworks display guaranteed to excite the child in everyone.

The Asian theme is continued throughout the weekend with martial arts displays. As well the Pacific Islander and Moari cultures will be featured. It is 150 years of Pacific Islanders in Queensland and what better way to celebrate this than to feature their unique cultural dance and practices at the festival. A little bit of Australia is on the cards with the working sheepdog display and Donny's "Ducks & Dogs" again making an appearance. "The Twine" will be back by popular demand, coming to entertain the crowd and also conducting workshops with schools prior to the event.

GOOD NEWS. REQUESTED ANOTHER REVIEW AND GOT BELOW REPLY FROM THE FESTIVAL ORGANIZER: "Hi Brij & Ken
First to answer your question about the tent campers being together yes they can - we could mark off an area. Next I forwarded your email onto committee and have had another response, so here goes. They have reviewed your request and have decided that it would be fine to stay together if your caravans, campervans etc. would be willing to go into a designated spot in the tent camping area with your vans. However they would like you to be aware that the camping area has traditionally been quite rowdy (although we have never had any serious incidents) and that is the reason for the separate areas. A large proportion of our caravan and motorhome travellers are grey nomads who prefer a quieter life. "

NOTE: WHEN CHECKING-IN, PLEASE TELL AT THE GATE THAT YOU ARE FROM 'Brisbane Meetup Group' THEN THEY DIRECT YOU TO OUR DESIGNATED AREA.

THE PREVIOUS MESSAGE MEANS WE WILL HAVE TO GO BACK TO ORIGINAL PLANS AND TRY AND MEET WITHIN THE SHOWGROUND OR BEFOREHAND. I WILL BE AT THE COMMERCIAL HOTEL, TARA TILL 2PM FRIDAY AFTERNOON. LOOK FOR THE PERSON WEARING AN OLD BLUE GOLD COAST CHARGERS FOOTY JUMPER. I WILL ALSO WAIT NEAR THE SHOWGROUND ENTRANCE GATE UNTIL 6PM ONCE MY TENT IS UP ON FRIDAY ARVO. I DO NOT HAVE TELSTRA SO MAY NOT BE CALLED IN TARA. HOWEVER YOU CAN TEXT MY GIRL FRIEND CLAIRE WHEN YOU ARE IN TARA - SHE HAS TELSTRA - ON 0418180721. We may be a little scattered but we will try and get together. Sorry about the hassles but I intend to have a good time and hope you can join me.

    July 25, 2013

    • Debbie

Thanks Ken for trying you have done an awesome job

      July 25, 2013

    • Ken D.

I'm going to try and wear distintive clothes and a distinctive hat - probably a St Patricks Day one - so members can easily identify me. I'm also hoping to have lunch and meet people at the Commercial Hotel in Tara before we go to the showground.

      1 · July 26, 2013

  • Ken D.

ALL MEMBERS - HAVE JUST GOT A REPLY RELATING TO STAYING TOGETHER:
    Hi Ken
Ok, I now have a decision regarding the vans and tents. The committee have decided that the tents will have to go to the camping area and the caravans, campervans and camper trailers in the section reserved for them.
We would very much have liked to put you all together, however the decision was made because if we allowed one group to change to the wrong section, we would have to allow anyone to go where they liked and this could cause some considerable chaos and some serious safety concerns.
Hope this doesn't affect you too much.
    Jackie

[I say: The tents and vans were mixed at the Australia Camp Oven Festival in Milmerran last year and there were no problems]

    READ NEXT MESSAGE.

    All the best

    July 25, 2013

  • Kay R.

Hi Ken, fire pits/drums aren't supplied at Tara showgrounds. If anyone has one I am happy to bring wood.
I will be going straight to the showgrounds as I will be towing the van. Don't think there will be room for the van near the pub - with all the extra people in town.

    July 23, 2013

    • Debbie

Hi Ken I met yourself, Chris, Claire and a couple of other people last year at Neurum Creek. I am going to Tara. Not sure when I will be there either Thurs arvo or early Friday morning. I now have a 7 metre motorhome. If I dont find you when setting up, I will just find you later when you are all there and bring my chair and drinkies etc for happy hour. cheers Deb

      1 · July 24, 2013

    • Ken D.

Thanks Debbie. Will hear soon from festival organisers about a spot for us all and will let everybody know.

      July 24, 2013

  • Ken D.

I have received a reply from the festival organisers about puttting us all together:

"We generally have caravans in one area and tents in another. However as we haven't had this type of request before could you please send through a breakdown of how many tents and how many caravans & campervans you have? This could be approximate if you don't know exact numbers.
At past festivals it has appeared that the campers seem to be a younger crowd of people whereas the caravans are often in the 50+ group.
We would like to be able to put you all together and this information will help us decide."

Could all those going please reply how you will be camping so I can let the organiser know.

    July 23, 2013

    • Kay R.

      I have a 15ft caravan.

      July 24, 2013

    • Debbie

a 7 metre motorhome ( I think that is about 22ft in old language) plus the awning. If too big , happy to be wherever and just catch up with you around the fire with my chair and drinkies

      July 24, 2013

  • Chris

Please note that the downloadable brochure of the event states the only phone reception is Telstra 4G.

    July 24, 2013

    • Brij

But festival website states: "Mobile phone coverage is limited in the Tara region. Telstra Next G network is the reliable signal (Telstra 3G does not work)". Could be a misprint because Telstra 4G is still not widely available outback which gives faster bandwidth than Next G or 3G. Festival link: http://www.tarafestiv...

    July 23, 2013

Hi. Kay ,I have a fire pit. Ill bring it bring some wood

    July 23, 2013

  • Sandy D.

Hi ken I thought we just find a spot to camp , or do we book

    July 23, 2013

    • Ken D.

If you are going to the showground there is no need to book - you turn up and you are led to a spot. However I note that groups of 10 or more can arrange for spots to be allocated in advance and that's what I will do today. I will add more later after I have spoken to festival organisers.

      July 23, 2013

    • Cess & Pauline C.

Ill try and get to pub by lunch time and i have your mobile

      July 23, 2013

Anyone who lives on the GC wants to go but has no transport I'm happy to provide a lift. You will need your own sleeping gear tho. I will be leaving early Friday and returning on late Sunday or Monday morning depending on how good the festivities are.

    July 22, 2013

  • Ken D.

I hope to be at the Commercial Hotel in Tara by lunchtime and will go into the showground from there for the free camping. If anybody wants to join me let me know so we all go in together to camp together.

    July 22, 2013

    • Ray D.

Hi Ken, Judy and I expect to arrive around lunchtime and will meet up with you at the commercial. We have your phone number and will call if anything changes. regards Ray

    • Ken D.

If we get there on time we will have lunch at the pub.

      July 22, 2013

  • Ken D.

Member Zoe asked about dogs. I checked the website and it notes: "Dogs are allowed at Tara in the camping area of the showground but will not be allowed into the festival area of the showground. They must be restrained and abide by council regulations."

    July 12, 2013

  • Ken D.

You do not need to book for this if you are planning on staying at the showground where the festival is held. Camping is free but you just pay the festival fee on entry. Unfortunately we will probably be scattered but my phone no is 0424091920. If it's like the Camp Oven Festival at Milmerran last year there will be long rows of tents, campervans and caravans and a lot of grey nomads! It will also be very cold at night - but also like Milmerran a lot of great people to be met - within our group and not!

    July 11, 2013

  • GAVIN A

if any wants to go i dont mind sharing my large camper trailer for some company

    July 10, 2013

  • Ken D.

It's going to be cold here being mid winter but great fun. Members will be scattered but I my phone no is[masked] for you to remember so we can get together when we can. But always remember to have fun!

Jo Jo has promised if we get her drunk enough, she'll ride the camel. Now that would be entertainment with a capital "E"
