Scrum 101

Curious about Agile/Scrum or looking to learn more?

We are pleased to offer a lean intro session for the Agile curious. You will learn the basic jargon (conversational Scrum) and at least one practice you can start using NOW to bring focus and agility to your daily work. SFAA ScrumMasters will be on hand to answer questions and offer tips.

Great video, lots of super ideas. Love the squad, chapter, tribes, and guilds groupings. Favorite quote = "Agile at scale requires trust at scale." Thanks Rick!!!

Couldn't agree more, Maria. Trust "at scale" within Agile-adoptive organizations, is topic with a lot of research going on examining it.

Excellent location and the meeting very informative. Loved meeting folks from the Miami-Dade group. Drive was long and I got lost, but definitely worth the trip. Rich - thanks again for the tour.

Those are all great books, thanks for suggesting, Maria. Emily, we have been discussing offering a Scrum 101 class to introduce the basics. Stay tuned :) I am hoping to be able to have this session set the tone for the class.

I have a lot after reading the primer and Lean Startup. Not sure if I can attend this meeting due to class (SDLC Sys Analy, ironically enough.) But here are my questions:

How do you implement scrum when IT team is used to being lone wolfs? (People resistance)

How do you implement when daily work involves many other simultaneous client projects with separate teams? Still do-able? How do you estimate timeboxing time?

How do you implement when team all works remotely?

    March 17, 2014

    • Maria P. B.

Hey Emily, Those are great questions and not easily answered in a short post. For the situation with many clients, take a look at KanBan. For people resistance and ways to work with remote teams, there are some great ideas in Mike Cohn's book, Succeeding with Agile. Our Agile Book Club read that one last year. Lastly, if you can't make our Scrum 101 session, there are "lean coffee" sessions in Miami and Broward on other nights.

Maria, thanks for organizing, This is a Great topic, lots of Agile curious members and non-members have asked for this so looking forward to answering all your questions. Are there specific answers you are looking for? Let's get a discussion ongoing...

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
