Class participants will learn how these ancient Chinese practices can reduce stress, improve health, balance and flexibility and promote an overall sense of well being. Participate in the slow, rhythmic movements and relaxing style with instructor Joan Cosgrove for approximately 50 minutes. Tai Chi traditionally has been recognized as a formidable martial art, and recently the West has also acknowledged the healing benefits of its practice.
Joan has studied Qi Gong and Tai Chi since 2002, under the instruction of Sensei Jeannie Redding and Masters Ken Smith and John Fritz, from Grandmaster Fred Villari’s lineage. She has been an instructor in Royal Palm Beach for the past two years. Joan is also certified by Dr Paul Lam as an instructor of the Tai Chi for Arthritis program authorized by the American Arthritis Foundation. The most recent (Nov. 2010) exciting news about this program comes from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill School of Medicine, Thurston Arthritis Research Center where it was concluded that “there are significant benefits of the Tai Chi course for individuals with all types of arthritis including fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.” The study also concluded that the Tai Chi for Arthritis program “relieves arthritis pain, improves reach, balance and well being”.
