The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, by Mark Haddon

Oops!  My first choice for August, the Art of Racing in the Rain, was already done by this very book club!  So here's a new selection...

Christopher John Francis Boone knows all the countries of the world and their capitals and every prime number up to 7,057. He relates well to animals but has no understanding of human emotions.  Although gifted with a superb logical brain, Christopher is autistic. At fifteen, Christopher finds his neighbor's dog, Wellington, impaled on a garden fork.  Initially blamed for the killing, Christopher decides that he will track down the real killer...

It was a refreshing male perspective for the narration, and I enjoyed the journey it engaged the reader on as well. Not entertaining so to speak, but very innocent and quirky with much to figure out on your own. And for him. I like how some pointed out this was written 10 years ago. Seems conditions for Christopher may be better today in some ways, but maybe in some ways, they would be worse given climate.

Beautifully written book. The characters were so engaging, and there was so much to process in each chapter! I loved that it was told from Christopher's point of view.

I was really looking forward to this, but my schedule has changed and I don't think I can make it. The book was great, though. Very insightful.

Glad I checked-back before starting to read the Art of Racing in the Rain (which I may read anyway, but not until I have more time!)
